The Property
Myalla is a key breeding property for Hazeldean, running 1,200 stud Angus cows and 7,000 commercial Merino ewes joined annually. Across 8,000 ha of rolling to hilly grazing country at 1,000 to 1,200 metres elevation south of Cooma.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Livestock 2IC to join the Myalla team. This is a hands-on role working within a team of four permanent staff, supported by contractors during peak periods. Reporting directly to the Property Manager, you will play a key role in the day-to-day running of both sheep and cattle enterprises.
This position suits someone ready to take the next step toward a full management role, or an experienced person looking for a rewarding position with one of Australia's leading livestock businesses.
Key Responsibilities
Livestock
Oversee the health, nutrition, and welfare of all livestock across sheep and cattle enterprises
Coordinate and implement animal health programs and seasonal operations including shearing, calving, joining, and weaning.
Monitor livestock condition proactively and initiate timely management strategies
Maintain accurate livestock records including treatments, movements, births, and mortalities using AgriWebb and Stockbook
Support stock movement planning and feed budgeting
Farm Infrastructure and Maintenance
Assist in maintaining farm infrastructure including fences, troughs, water systems, yards, sheds, and machinery
Coordinate repair and maintenance tasks with efficiency and a strong focus on safety
Maintain paddocks, work areas, vehicles, and equipment in a clean, safe, and operational condition
Pasture, Weed and Pest Management
Monitor pasture conditions and assist in rotational grazing planning
Identify and report weed and pest issues, contributing to control and eradication programs
Collaborate on fertiliser planning and soil health strategies
Team Leadership
Lead by example, promoting a strong safety culture and positive work ethic
Supervise and mentor junior staff and contractors to ensure work is completed to a high standard
Administration and Compliance
Maintain up-to-date digital records of farm activities and livestock data using AgriWebb, Stockbook, and TruTest
Reconcile stock counts and report discrepancies to the Manager
Conduct all operations in accordance with WHS guidelines through Safe Ag Systems
About You
You will have solid hands-on experience with livestock and a genuine passion for breeding and productive pastures. Prior management experience is not essential. We are equally interested in hearing from candidates ready to step up for the first time and those with established 2IC experience.
To be successful in this role you will:
Handle stock quietly, gently, and with a strong commitment to animal welfare
Be physically fit and able to meet the demands of a working property
Be a self-starter with a positive attitude and a high level of attention to detail
Have experience with livestock recording systems and agricultural technology
Be computer literate with data recording proficiency
What We Offer
Salary range $75,000 to $90,000, commensurate with experience
