Job title: Medical Receptionist — Family-Owned Ultrasound Clinic
Classification: Healthcare & Medical > Medical Administration
Work type: Full time
Salary: $66,000 + superannuation
Location: Phillip, Canberra ACT
The short version
Woden Ultrasound is a family-owned diagnostic ultrasound clinic in the heart of the Woden precinct. We're looking for a warm, organised medical receptionist to be the first face our patients see. No medical reception experience required — if you are adaptable and willing to learn, we'll teach you everything from Medicare billing to our booking system. What we can't teach is genuine care for people, and that's what we're hiring for.
About us
We opened Woden Ultrasound to do one thing exceptionally well. As a single-modality practice led by a principal sonographer with more than 35 years of experience, we offer patients something the big radiology chains can't: time, attention, and a calm, unhurried experience. Our patients notice — and tell us so. We're proudly independent and family-owned, and our reception desk is the heart of the practice.
About the role
– Full time, Monday to Friday, 8:15 am – 4:45 pm (37.5 hours per week with a one-hour lunch break) — no weekends, no evenings
– Welcoming patients and putting them at ease, especially those who are anxious or attending difficult appointments
– Managing bookings, phones and email enquiries
– Processing payments, Medicare claims and receipts (full training provided)
– Handling referrals and reports with care and confidentiality
– Keeping the front of house running smoothly for our sonographer and patients
– General light cleaning duties
You'll receive a structured handover from our current receptionist plus ongoing training and support from the practice manager. We'd love the successful candidate to start in the week of 24 August, but we'll work with your notice period.
About you
We're not looking for a particular resume — we're looking for a particular person:
– Genuinely warm and cheerful; patients should feel better for having spoken to you
– Excellent interpersonal and phone manner
– Trustworthy and accountable — you'll handle payments, health information and patient trust every day
– Empathetic, especially with nervous or unwell customers
– Keen to learn — Medicare, HICAPS and medical software experience is a bonus, not a requirement
– Reliable, organised and calm when the phone and the front desk are both busy
Why you'll like working here
✓ Above-award salary: $66,000 + super
✓ Sensible hours with a genuine hour-long lunch break
✓ A small, supportive family team — you'll never be a number
✓ Close to the Woden Bus Interchange and Woden Westfield
✓ Full training and real variety in the role
