Your key responsibilities

• Operationally lead the Analytical team within Laboratory Management, Forensic Biology Division ensuring that case flow and scientific analyses and casework is processed in an efficient and timely manner, meeting stakeholder expectations and organisational objectives.
• Adhere to defined service quality standards, health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
• Ensure that allocated resources are managed effectively in accordance with approved operational and business plans agreed with Executive Manager, Laboratory Management.
• Professionally and effectively lead the team to develop a positive organisational culture and create a safe and innovative environment for staff through team meetings, facilitating staff development, performance appraisal and other human resource management measures.
• Ensure that the Analytical team meets all relevant legislative, administrative, and professional standards to meet NATA/ISO accreditation/certification requirements to provide quality scientific practice.
• Contribute to the effective management of the Laboratory Management Branch and whole Forensic Biology.
• Participate in the regular review and improvement in forensic biology/DNA professional work policies, practices and procedures in accordance with NATA accreditation, international standards of best practice and legislative requirements.
• Implement, in conjunction with the Executive Managers Forensic Biology, any Commission of Inquiry recommendations into DNA testing that relate to the team.
• Collaborate with other scientific line managers and teams to ensure the role and operations of Forensic Biology are operationally integrated with those of FSQ to achieve its service delivery goals and to lead the development of service improvement initiatives to ensure the provision of quality scientific services to clients and stakeholders.
• Participate in the development of close collaborative partnerships with state-wide clients and stakeholders to ensure an effective delivery of client focused scientific services.
• Contribute to operational and business planning and management of Forensic Biology, including forecasting of space, staff and equipment needs in the future as the service develops to meet the needs of the justice system and monitor the implementation of initiatives to ensure achievement of FSQ objectives.
• Contribute to complex forensic biology casework and provide expert evidence to the Queensland justice system as required.
• Apply scientific expertise within the discipline of forensic biology to solve complex scientific service or work-flow problems.
• Represent Forensic Biology on relevant internal and external committees and forums.
• Support the development of scientific knowledge and expertise of staff.
• Other duties as determined by the Executive Manager Laboratory management.
