About the role
The System Engineer (Maritime) is responsible for the engineering design, technical configuration, integration, testing, and documentation of maritime telecommunication, navigation, safety, and security systems. The role requires a strong understanding of marine communication technologies, system integration, and engineering best practices to deliver solutions that meet client requirements and industry standards. Working closely with project managers, customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams, the System Engineer will ensure high-quality engineering deliverables from concept through commissioning.
Key responsibilities
Lead the engineering design process by reviewing customer specifications, understanding operational requirements, and proposing compliant and cost-effective technical solutions
Design, configure, and integrate maritime telecommunication, safety, security, and navigation systems, including IP Network Infrastructure, Wi-Fi (WLAN), Firewall & Network Security, IP-PABX / Telephony Systems, Public Address & General Alarm (PAGA), CCTV & Video Surveillance, Voice Communication Systems (VCS), TETRA / DMR / UHF / VHF Radio Systems, GMDSS Radio Systems, GEO / MEO / LEO VSAT Systems, IPTV, Marine Radar, and Gyrocompass
Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including Vendor Document Requirement Lists (VDRL), technical specifications, calculations, configuration records, and design reports
Produce engineering sketches and provide technical guidance to AutoCAD drafters for the preparation of detailed engineering drawings
Ensure engineering drawings and documentation comply with applicable industry standards, classification society requirements, SOLAS regulations, and company engineering practices
Support equipment assembly, cabinet integration, system configuration, simulation, testing, and verification activities with in-house technicians
Conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), prepare test procedures, resolve technical issues, and support customer demonstrations
Provide technical training to customers, commissioning engineers, and internal stakeholders
Support site commissioning, troubleshooting, and system optimization when required
Collaborate with project managers, procurement, suppliers, and customers to ensure successful project delivery within schedule and quality requirements
Requirements
Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Minimum 4–5 years of relevant experience in systems engineering, preferably within the maritime, offshore, marine, naval, or industrial sectors.
Strong engineering knowledge of maritime telecommunication, navigation, safety, and security systems.
Experience in engineering design, system integration, technical documentation, and equipment configuration.
Familiarity with marine regulations and standards, including SOLAS, IMO, IEC, and classification society requirements, is an advantage.
Strong technical documentation and time management skills.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Good communication skills with the ability to present technical solutions to customers and suppliers.
Able to work independently as well as collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Self-motivated, organized, resourceful, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
AutoCAD certification or equivalent drafting experience.
Experience in site commissioning, radio surveys, or sea trials.
Knowledge of SOLAS and MODU requirements.
Experience using engineering and coverage planning tools such as:
CadnaA (PAGA acoustic coverage)
Ekahau (Wi-Fi coverage)
iBwave (UHF/GSM/RF coverage)
Familiarity with network design, cybersecurity, virtualization, and IP-based industrial communication systems will be an added advantage.
