We have an exciting opportunity for a FDVA Assessment Specialist to join our residential Breathing Space Men’s Behaviour Change Program, working to make a positive change in the FDVA sector.

Breathing Space program

The Breathing Space program is a specifically designed program delivered to men who choose to use violence and abuse in their relationships with partner(s) or family members. The program is delivered in a secure and supportive therapeutic setting and provides educational group work, informal counselling, individual case management and advocacy. This approach supports victim survivors, including children, to remain in their homes and in connection with their support networks, to maximise their safety.

The Role

The FDVA Assessment Specialist conducts comprehensive screening, triage, and risk and needs assessments for all incoming referrals to the Communicare Breathing Space (CBS) program. This role proactively engages with internal and external stakeholders to ensure referral and information management systems are maintained to a high standard of accuracy and quality.

This is a permanent full-time position working 76 hours per fortnight and is primarily located in Calista. Travel will be required across Communicare's locations as well as to conduct face to face assessments in prisons.

About You

Tertiary qualification in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology, or a related discipline, with experience in the Family and Domestic Violence and Abuse (FDVA) sector.

Demonstrated expertise in family violence risk assessment, safety planning, case management, client advocacy, and referral pathways.

Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with clients, service providers, and community partners.

Ability to effectively manage crisis situations, support individuals experiencing emotional distress, and respond to challenging behaviours using a trauma-informed approach.

Sound knowledge of family and domestic violence, family safety, risk management, case management principles, and developmental and psychosocial issues.

Cultural capability and sensitivity to work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, and people with disabilities.

Resilient, reflective, and committed to professional self-care, with a focus on delivering high-quality, client-centred services.

Hold a current unrestricted Driver's Licence, National Police Clearance, Working with Children Check, and willingness to obtain a Department of Justice Clearance if required.
