About CAAMA

Central Australian Aboriginal Media Association (CAAMA) is Australia's original First Nations broadcaster and one of the country's most respected Aboriginal media organisations.

Based in Mparntwe (Alice Springs), CAAMA has been creating media with and for Aboriginal people, families and communities for almost five decades.

Home to 8KIN FM, CAAMA operates Australia's largest Indigenous broadcast network, connecting more than 30 remote and regional communities across the Northern Territory and northern South Australia. Alongside award-winning radio, digital media and community storytelling, CAAMA is also the custodian of one of Australia's most significant First Nations media collections.

As we approach our landmark 50th anniversary, we're investing in organisational renewal, digital transformation and workforce development and we're looking for an experienced editorial leader to help shape the future of Indigenous media.

About the Opportunity

We're seeking an experienced Editorial Lead (Broadcast & Digital) to join our team full-time in Mparntwe (Alice Springs), Northern Territory.

Reporting directly to the CEO, you'll provide editorial leadership across radio and digital platforms while mentoring emerging First Nations journalists and ensuring the highest standards of journalism, ethics and storytelling.

This is a unique opportunity to combine newsroom leadership with meaningful cultural impact, helping preserve stories, strengthen communities and develop future Aboriginal media professionals.

In this role, you'll:

Lead editorial planning and content across radio and digital platforms

Mentor and coach emerging First Nations journalists and content creators

Guide story development from concept through to publication

Maintain high editorial, ethical and journalistic standards

Coach staff in interviewing, writing, research and multimedia storytelling

Build newsroom capability through collaboration and workforce development

Develop trusted relationships with Aboriginal communities across Central Australia

Support CAAMA's strategic vision as Australia's leading First Nations broadcaster

About You

To be successful, you'll have:

A qualification in Journalism (Degree, Diploma or equivalent)

At least five years' professional journalism experience

Strong editorial judgement with a sound understanding of media law and ethics

Experience producing digital and multimedia journalism

Experience leading, mentoring or developing journalists or editorial teams

Outstanding interviewing, writing and storytelling skills

A portfolio demonstrating high-quality published journalism

Highly regarded experience includes:

First Nations media

Community or public interest journalism

Multicultural media

Remote or regional reporting

Cross-cultural communication and engagement

What We Offer
