About Us
At Rent.com.au, we believe Australia’s renters deserve better, so we’re determined to be the champion they need. By building technology to enable and empower Australia’s renters, we’re building a world where renting is a rewarding experience.
Our main product RentBond® is a personal loan that helps renters fund their next move by covering the rental bond, two weeks’ rent in advance, and any other moving costs. What sets RentBond® apart is that we offer renters the ability to fully repay their loan within 21 days and incur no fees or charges. An industry leading offering that puts our renters first when applying for and securing a rental property. It has been in market for more than 10 years, helping almost 40,000 renters secure their next home via more than $85 million in loans.
Own the engine room of a lender built for renters
We are looking for a Credit Analyst to own the analytical and regulatory core of that lending business: the policy rules, the scorecards, the serviceability logic, the pricing, and the reporting that tells us whether any of it is working.
This is a genuinely broad brief. You won't be a small part of a big credit team — you'll be a key driving force, reporting to our Head of Credit, with your work going to the CEO, CFO, Credit Committee and Board. If you want visibility and ownership rather than a narrow slice of a model, read on.
What you'll own
Credit risk and decisioning
Design, document and maintain our policy rules — the decision logic that sits behind every application
Build, monitor and recalibrate scorecards, and make the case for change when performance drifts
Own our serviceability assessment approach and keep it defensible as products and data sources evolve
Shape the product suite and pricing — risk-based, commercially sound, and something we can explain to a regulator and a funder
Run monitoring and reporting: portfolio performance, vintage and cohort analysis, approval and conversion rates, arrears and loss trends, early-warning indicators, and the Board pack that makes sense of it all
Compliance you'll be responsible for
ACL obligations — helping the licensee stay demonstrably compliant, not just technically compliant
Responsible lending obligations, including the modified regime for low cost credit contracts under Part 3-2BA of the National Credit Act
Design & Distribution Obligations — authoring and reviewing our Target Market Determinations
Internal credit policies — keeping them current, coherent and actually used
Where you'll be consulted
You'll be a key voice (not the decision-maker) on the credit risk framework, credit assessment and collections practice, KYC/AML, product roadmap, and selection of data and decisioning service providers.
What you'll bring
2–5 years in consumer credit risk — a lender, BNPL, fintech, bank, non-bank or credit bureau. What matters is that you have worked with real repayment performance data, not just a textbook.
Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, Business, or a related field (master’s preferred).
Practical understanding of credit scoring and decisioning: cut-offs, swap-set analysis, Gini/KS, PSI, vintage and roll-rate analysis, champion/challenger testing
Working knowledge of the NCCP Act, responsible lending, comprehensive credit reporting and DDO — you don't need to be a compliance specialist, but you need to know where the lines are
The ability to write and present: a scorecard that nobody understands doesn't change a decision. Board-ready clarity is part of the job.
Sound judgement and a healthy scepticism about your own numbers
The bit we care about most: AI fluency
We are not asking whether you have "used ChatGPT". We are asking whether you have changed how you work.
The analyst who thrives here uses AI tools to compress the slow parts of credit analysis — so that domain expertise, not manual effort, becomes the bottleneck. In practice that looks like:
Using LLMs to interrogate long regulatory and policy documents, then drafting the TMD, policy update or credit paper from that base
Writing and debugging with an AI assistant, and shipping in days what used to take weeks
Standing up repeatable, semi-automated monitoring and reporting instead of rebuilding the same spreadsheet monthly
Rapidly prototyping segmentation, feature ideas and scorecard hypotheses to test more ideas than a manual workflow allows
Knowing where not to use it: understanding hallucination risk, model governance, explainability expectations for credit decisions, and the rules about what customer data goes near which tool
If you have built something — an agent, a workflow, a set of prompts, a tool your team now relies on — tell us about it. We would rather see that than another certification.
Nice to have (not deal-breakers)
Experience with Experian PowerCurve or another decision engine (FICO, Provenir, ACTICO, Taktile, LendAPI, in-house rules engines)
Exposure to credit bureau data and comprehensive credit reporting (Equifax, Experian, illion)
Open banking / transaction categorisation data for serviceability
Small-balance, high-volume or thin-file lending portfolios
BI tooling (Power BI, Looker, Tableau) and version control (git)
Experience in a business that has reported to debt funders or a Credit Committee
Why this role
Scope. Policy, scorecards, serviceability, pricing, product and compliance — in most organisations that is four jobs and three layers of approval.
Proximity. You will present to the CEO, CFO and Board. Your recommendations become decisions in weeks, not quarters.
A business that needs the answer. Credit performance is central to our strategy, so credit analytics gets attention and investment.
Permission to build. We want the person who automates their own reporting and then goes looking for the next problem.
Purpose. Eight million Australians rent. Most of them are invisible to mainstream credit. Fixing that is a real problem worth working on.
Invaluable experience. ASX listed and at the start of our growth curve.
Flexibility around the little things as long as the job gets done.
Great location in Burswood with plenty of car-parking, easy access to Vic Park food outlets as well as proximity to Swan River foreshore and parks.
About Rent.com.au
We believe renters deserve a champion. Did you know a third of Australians rent? And the fastest growing group of renters are highly educated, well paid, and rent by choice? Renting benefits society in many ways, yet it hasn’t attracted the same respect and innovation as homeownership. That’s why we’re motivated to constantly develop technology to make renting better.
We've been helping renters, real estate agents and landlords for 17 years - with the last 10 being as an ASX-listed business.
