About Us & Your Opportunity

Your first Occupational Therapy role should give you the opportunity to discover what kind of OT you actually want to become.

At Live Right Health Group, we don't expect a New Graduate Occupational Therapist to walk through the door knowing everything.

We expect you to be curious, willing to learn and passionate about becoming a great clinician. We'll help with the rest.

Our New Graduate Occupational Therapists have the opportunity to progressively develop experience across three areas of practice:

Community Occupational Therapy

Rehabilitation Consulting & Return to Work

Medicolegal Occupational Therapy & Functional Assessment

You won't be expected to become competent across everything immediately. Your caseload will develop progressively based on your confidence, competency and interests, with mentoring and supervision provided as you move into new areas of practice.

Early in your career, you may spend more time developing your foundations in community Occupational Therapy before progressively gaining exposure to workplace rehabilitation, Functional Capacity Evaluations, complex assessments and medicolegal work.

The goal isn't to make you do everything. It's to give you enough exposure, mentoring and opportunity to eventually decide where you want your OT career to go.

What Could Your Career Look Like?

One day you may be working with an NDIS participant to improve independence within their home. Another may involve completing an ADL or functional assessment and recommending equipment or environmental modifications.

As your experience develops, you could be attending a workplace to understand an injured worker's job demands and assist with their return to work. Later in your development, you may learn to complete Functional Capacity Evaluations, complex Assistive Technology assessments or contribute to comprehensive medicolegal assessments and reports.

That diversity means you can build broad foundations as a New Graduate before deciding whether you want to specialise.

Live Right Health Group delivers services throughout Brisbane, Moreton Bay, Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast, providing opportunities across community rehabilitation, disability, occupational rehabilitation and medicolegal services.

Our Approach to New Graduates

We know the transition from university to clinical practice can be significant.

You won't be expected to manage the same complexity or caseload as an experienced Occupational Therapist from day one.

Your development will focus on:

Building confidence with assessment and clinical reasoning

Learning how to structure an effective OT assessment

Developing intervention planning skills

Learning professional documentation and report writing

Understanding different funding systems

Developing stakeholder communication skills

Learning Assistive Technology prescription progressively

Managing your diary and caseload effectively

Recognising when you need assistance

Gradually increasing clinical complexity as your competency develops

As you progress, your caseload and responsibilities progress with you.

A Team That Invests in You

Our New Graduate Program is designed to give you access to clinicians who genuinely enjoy teaching.

Your development may include:

Weekly clinical education

Structured 1:1 mentoring

Internal case conferences

Shadowing opportunities

Joint assessments where appropriate

Clinical reasoning sessions

Report-writing support

Assistive Technology mentoring

Neurological OT mentoring

Occupational rehabilitation mentoring

Medicolegal supervision as you progress

Complex case discussions

External professional development

Open-door support from senior clinicians

Most importantly, you are not expected to know what you haven't been taught yet.

We want you to ask questions.

What You'll Be Doing

Initially, your role will focus on developing strong foundations in Occupational Therapy practice.

Depending on your caseload and stage of development, this may include:

Completing functional and occupational performance assessments

Assessing activities of daily living and independence

Developing goal-directed intervention programs

Working with participants in their homes and communities

Supporting clients with physical, neurological, cognitive and psychosocial presentations

Completing basic Assistive Technology assessments and progressing toward more complex prescription

Developing recommendations to improve independence, safety and participation

Communicating with clients, families and support networks

Liaising with Support Coordinators, Plan Managers, GPs and other health professionals

Preparing clinical reports and recommendations

Learning to navigate NDIS, DVA, Support at Home, WorkCover, CTP and other funding systems

Participating in multidisciplinary case discussions

Our Team Rules

Our approach is built around a few simple principles:

Staff come first.

Flexibility creates quality.

Therapists should develop in areas they genuinely enjoy.

Burnout prevention matters.

Asking for help is part of becoming a great clinician.

Being part of a team should genuinely feel like being part of a team.

We want our New Graduates to become confident, independent clinicians without feeling like they had to survive their first year to get there.

About You

We're looking for someone who is:

A New Graduate Occupational Therapist or early-career OT

AHPRA registered or eligible for registration

Curious and genuinely interested in learning

Passionate about improving people's independence, function and participation

Comfortable asking questions when unsure

Interested in developing broad clinical experience

A strong and respectful communicator

Organised and willing to develop their time-management skills

Open to feedback and mentoring

Comfortable working independently once appropriately trained

Committed to evidence-based, person-centred Occupational Therapy

Holds a current driver's licence and has access to a reliable vehicle

Why Start Your Career at Live Right?

You don't have to decide in your first year whether you're going to be a community OT, neurological OT, Assistive Technology specialist, Rehabilitation Consultant or Medicolegal Assessor for the rest of your career.

We'd rather give you the opportunity to experience different areas, build strong foundations and find out what you're genuinely good at and enjoy.

As your skills develop, your career can become more specialised. You might discover that you love neurological rehabilitation. You might become passionate about complex Assistive Technology. You might find workplace rehabilitation fascinating. Or, you might eventually become a Medicolegal Occupational Therapist completing complex functional assessments and expert reports.

Your first job doesn't need to define your entire career. It should give you the skills and opportunities to build one.
