About the Role:
The Research Fellow will play a central role in strengthening Curtin Centre for Applied Ethics (CCAE’s) research capacity, supporting the design and delivery of future reports, developing research instruments and contributing to evidence-based outputs that inform industry, government and community decision-making.

The role will also support the development of associated information assets, which may include an evidence-based interactive online platform, index, dashboard or comparable mechanism to extend the reach, accessibility and influence of CCAE’s research and engagement activities.
CCAE is developing an authoritative annual report series designed to provoke engagement and impact on significant matters of applied ethics, with a particular focus on the environment, sustainability and digital transformation / AI. Following the pilot 2026 report focused on environment and ethical business decision-making, the Centre is seeking to expand the scope, ambition and national influence of subsequent reports in 2027 and 2028.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Contribute to the planning, design, development and delivery of CCAE’s annual flagship report series.
• Undertake high-quality research in applied ethics, including analysis of large secondary datasets drawn from administrative and survey sources, development of new research instruments and literature reviews.
• Support the development of evidence-based reporting tools that benchmark industry performance against ethical standards.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of surveys, indices, interactive online platforms or other information assets connected to the report program.
• Prepare research outputs, briefing materials, public-facing content and other written products for academic, policy, industry and community audiences.
• Work collaboratively with CCAE researchers and partners to translate research findings into accessible, influential and impact-focused outputs.
• Support engagement activities linked to the report program, including workshops, symposia, media outreach, industry engagement and stakeholder briefings.
• Assist with identifying opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships and externally funded research aligned with CCAE’s strategic priorities.
• Contribute to a collegial, ethical and high-performing research environment within the Centre.

Who we are looking for/Selection Criteria:

1. A doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline, such as economics, statistics, public policy, social sciences or other field related to CCAE’s research foci.
2. Evidence of a record of research outputs/creative works in high-quality refereed journals/outlets consistent with the discipline.
3. Extensive quantitative, statistical and analytical skills, and research interests in areas relevant to CCAE’s areas of focus,
4. Evidence of quality and impact of research outputs/creative works including journal ranking, citation indices, patents awarded, reputation and standing of publishing house or other outlets, independent review from distinguished scholars or critics, or equivalent esteem measures as appropriate to the discipline.
5. Demonstrated capacity to secure external funding.
6. Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to the development of a collegial and supportive working environment and the ability to interact with students and staff with cross cultural sensitivity.
7. Demonstrated commitment to applying relevant and applicable policies, procedures and legislation in the day-to-day performance of the functions of this position

Role Requirements:

1. As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role
