Experienced 4x4 Accessory Fitter

Fatbuilds 4x4 is searching for an experienced 4x4 Accessory Fitter or automotive professional to join our growing team.

We also welcome applications from qualified auto electricians who are interested in expanding their skills and are happy to undertake the full range of 4x4 accessory-fitting duties.

Fatbuilds 4x4 is a passionate and highly driven team of 4WD enthusiasts based in Shearwater, Tasmania.

We specialise in American trucks, premium touring builds and customised 4WD packages, while also catering for general 4x4 accessory and modification needs.

As a one-stop 4x4 workshop, we work closely with our customers to take their vehicles from concept through to completion. Our reputation is built on quality workmanship, exceptional attention to detail and delivering vehicles we are genuinely proud to put our name to.

About the Role

This is a full-time, hands-on 4x4 accessory-fitting position working an 80-hour fortnight, with every second Friday as an RDO. Optional overtime may also be available when required.

All applicants, including qualified auto electricians, must be willing and able to undertake a wide variety of accessory-fitting duties alongside electrical work.

Your responsibilities may include:

Installing aftermarket 4x4 accessories, including bull bars, rear bars, suspension components, snorkels, roof racks, side steps, roller shutters and recovery equipment

Completing custom tray, canopy and rear-drawer fit-outs

Installing and wiring driving lights, UHF radios, dual-battery systems and other 12-volt accessories

Diagnosing and repairing automotive electrical systems where required

Completing selected mechanical work, including driveline, suspension and front or rear-end repairs

Fitting and balancing wheels and tyres

Carrying out vehicle wheel alignments

Managing allocated jobs from commencement through to completion

Completing work accurately, efficiently and within allocated timeframes

Performing final quality-control checks

Maintaining a clean, organised and safe workshop

While auto-electrical experience is highly valued, this is not a dedicated auto-electrical position. The successful applicant will work across all aspects of 4x4 accessory installation.

Simply put—if it goes on a 4WD or American truck, there is a good chance we fit it!

About You

We are looking for an experienced automotive professional who enjoys varied, hands-on work and is willing to contribute across all areas of the workshop.

You may currently be working as a:

4x4 accessory fitter

Auto electrician interested in broader accessory-fitting work

Light or heavy vehicle mechanic

Automotive technician with strong accessory-fitting or 12-volt experience

The successful applicant will have:

Previous hands-on experience within the automotive industry

Strong mechanical or auto-electrical knowledge

A willingness to install both mechanical and electrical 4x4 accessories

Excellent attention to detail and pride in their workmanship

Strong time-management skills and the ability to work efficiently

The ability to manage allocated jobs with minimal supervision

A reliable, self-motivated and positive attitude

The ability to work independently and as part of a team

Good communication and customer-service skills

A passion for 4WDs, American trucks and the automotive industry

A willingness to undertake training and continue developing their skills

A current manual driver’s licence

Experience with tyre fitting, wheel balancing and wheel alignments would be advantageous but is not essential.
