About Somerville Community Services

Somerville is a for-purpose, community-based organisation that has supported Territorians for over 60 years. We specialise in high-quality disability services that empower people to live the life they choose. As a registered NDIS provider, we deliver individualised support across the Northern Territory, with a focus on respectful, person-centred relationships that promote choice, dignity, and independence.

About the role

As a Disability Support Worker, you’ll provide person-centred support within a Supported Independent Living (SIL) environment, ensuring safe, consistent, and high-quality support in line with individual plans.

We are currently looking for candidates with demonstrated experience supporting people with complex behaviours of concern, including experience working with individuals with mental health needs and/or involvement with the criminal justice system (e.g. parole, probation, or similar).

The role is based across SIL services in Palmerston and the rural area, and requires flexibility to work across a 24/7 roster. Casual and part-time roles are available.

This position is open to male applicants only due to participant support requirements and in accordance with applicable Equal Opportunity legislation.

What you’ll do

This role involves providing consistent, person-centred support to individuals with complex and challenging backgrounds, maintaining strong professional boundaries and a calm, respectful and non-judgemental approach.

Key responsibilities include:

Responding to behaviours of concern in line with Behaviour Support Plans and positive behaviour strategies

Applying sound judgement and risk-aware decision-making to support safe and consistent outcomes

Working within structured routines and support frameworks to ensure consistency and stability

Liaising and communicating effectively with participants, families, and the broader support network

Promoting independence, confidence, and skill-building through daily activities and community engagement

Following individual support and health plans, including safe medication administration

Assisting with personal care, mobility, and daily living tasks

Maintaining accurate records and safeguarding participant wellbeing through confidentiality and professional boundaries

Contributing to a respectful, collaborative, and values-driven team culture

What you’ll bring

Demonstrated experience supporting people with complex behaviours of concern, including those with mental health needs and/or involvement with the criminal justice system (e.g. parole, probation, or similar)

Ability to provide active, person-centred support that promotes independence, engagement, and meaningful participation in daily life

Confidence following Behaviour Support Plans and applying consistent, proactive and reactive strategies

Ability to maintain strong professional boundaries and a calm, respectful, and non-judgemental approach in challenging situations

Sound judgement and the ability to make risk-aware decisions to support safe and consistent outcomes

Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with participants, families, and the broader support network

Commitment to participant safety, dignity, and ethical practice in line with the NDIS Code of Conduct

Strong documentation and system skills, ensuring accurate and timely records

Mandatory compliance requirements

To be considered for interview, you must hold all of the following current and valid documentation at the time of application:

NT Driver’s Licence

National Criminal History Check

NT Ochre Card (Working with Children Clearance)

NDIS Worker Screening Clearance

NDIS Worker Orientation Module 'Quality, Safety and You' certificate of completion
