About the role

We are seeking a reliable and safety-focused person to operate our diesel-hydraulic trams as a tourist service between The Pemberton Railway Station and The Pemberton Cascades, while providing engaging, clear and well-spoken commentary to passengers.

There is flexibility to tailor the role to the successful candidate. Ideally, the position would also include track, shed and general property maintenance to support the ongoing operation and presentation of the railway precinct.

This is a casual position with an option of working one to five days per week between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm, depending on the candidate availability and competency, with weekend work required as part of the tourism operation.

Key responsibilities

Conduct pre-operational checks of trams.

Complete daily checklists, records and defect reports as required.

Operate diesel-hydraulic trams in accordance with company procedures and safety requirements.

Provide clear, informative and engaging commentary to passengers.

Safely refuel and clean the interior of trams.

Respond appropriately to any operational and emergency situations.

Successfully complete company assessments relating to emergency response plans and company procedures.

Opportunity to perform with Station Officer duties, track, shed, grounds and general property maintenance as required.

About you

The successful applicant will:

Be required to successfully pass a Category 1 Medical Assessment.

Hold a current First Aid Certificate, or be willing to obtain one.

Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety systems, procedures and safe operating practices.

Have previous experience operating machinery, preferably in a workplace environment.

Have a general understanding of mechanical equipment and basic maintenance.

Be able to operate a chainsaw safely to occasionally clear debris from the track.

Be willing to learn about local history, flora and fauna and develop their knowledge over time.

Be reliable, punctual and well presented.

Have a friendly and professional manner.

Be comfortable working independently and as part of a small team.

Have good communication skills and be confident speaking to passengers.

Be willing to undertake internal training and competency assessments.

Experience in rail operations, machinery operation, mechanical maintenance or a similar environment will be highly regarded.
