OzFish Unlimited is a national NGO dedicated to helping the millions of Aussie recreational fishers take action for the health of their waterways and shore up the future of the sport they love. OzFish partners with fishers, stakeholders and the broader community to invest resources into restoring habitats and waterways, counteracting decades of degradation.
OzFish is looking for an experienced operator as our Director – Habitat Operations, trusted to deliver across a wide brief with accuracy, efficiency and by empowering our dynamic projects team. Your role is to work with the OzFish Projects Team delivering habitat restoration projects across a broad remit including resourcing funding pipelines, team management, effective project contract development and delivery, safety and compliance.
Working under the direction of the CEO and as part of our core Executive team, you will be responsible for;
· Setting strategic goals and directing OzFish existing national programs, projects and initiatives that contribute to fish habitat restoration and fisher engagement. Oversight of implementing and monitoring progress of project contract delivery, including reporting to the OzFish Board.
· Managing the project team’s financial health, ensuring responsible budgeting, resource allocation, and financial pipeline and sustainability for the project team. Ensuring maximum efficiency of OzFish funds and resources in project delivery.
· Manage, recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing project team, providing mentorship and professional development opportunities (up to 8 direct reports) – including budget management, approvals, alignment with strategic direction, deliverables/reporting, communications and safety.
· Developing and maintaining relationships with key partners and a network for successful habitat programs delivery.
· Maintain working knowledge of relevant legislation and policies applicable to aquatic habitat restoration in all States/Territories and Nationally.
· Expect regular travel across Australia.
You will be someone passionate about environmental restoration who wants to make a lasting difference to our waterways. It is essential that you have:
1. Degree in Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science or similar.
2. At least 10 years demonstrated experience in managing large and complex on-ground project operations.
3. Demonstrated experience and strategies in managing a large and diverse staff in remote work settings.
4. Exceptional internal and external communication skills
5. Thrive in a complex and challenging work environment, that requires problem solving abilities.
