The Opportunity

Workforce Extensions Geelong is currently recruiting for an experienced Fibreglass Production & Assembly Technician to join the manufacturing team of a well-established industrial manufacturer based across sites in Corio and Hoppers Crossing.

This is a hands-on role within a busy manufacturing and assembly environment, with the successful candidate bringing practical fibreglass and composite experience into the production team. We are particularly interested in hearing from people who have previously worked with fibreglass, resins, moulds, composites or similar materials.

Your experience doesn't necessarily need to come from the same industry. Candidates from boat building, marine manufacturing, caravan manufacturing, automotive, composites, mould making or other fibreglass production environments are strongly encouraged to apply.

About the Role

Working as part of an experienced manufacturing team, you will be involved in the production, preparation, finishing and assembly of specialised manufactured components.

A key focus of the position will be completing fibreglass work internally, so we're looking for someone who has genuine hands-on exposure to the material and understands the practical processes involved.

Depending on your previous experience, duties may include:

  • Hand lay-up and laminating of fibreglass components
  • Preparing moulds prior to production
  • Waxing, cleaning and maintaining mould surfaces
  • Mixing, preparing and applying resins
  • Working with fibreglass matting and reinforcement materials
  • Applying gel coats and other surface finishes
  • Removing completed components from moulds
  • Cutting, trimming, grinding and finishing fibreglass products
  • Repairing or modifying fibreglass components where required
  • Preparing components for further manufacturing and assembly
  • Drilling, measuring and fitting manufactured components
  • Using a range of hand and power tools
  • Assisting with mechanical and general product assembly
  • Reading measurements, drawings and production specifications
  • Inspecting completed work for quality and consistency
  • Identifying defects and completing finishing or rectification work
  • Assisting across other areas of the production floor when required
  • Maintaining appropriate PPE and safe handling procedures when working with fibreglass, resins and associated products
  • Maintaining a clean, safe and organised work area
What We're Looking For

Previous fibreglass experience is the key requirement for this position.

You don't need to be an expert in every aspect of fibreglass manufacturing, but you should have enough practical experience to be comfortable working with the product and understand the fundamentals involved.

Experience in any of the following would be highly regarded:

  • Fibreglass manufacturing or fabrication
  • Hand lay-up and laminating
  • Fibreglass moulding
  • Mould preparation
  • Gel coat application
  • Polyester, vinyl ester or epoxy resins
  • Fibreglass repairs
  • Composite manufacturing
  • Boat building or marine manufacturing
  • Pattern and mould making
  • Trimming and finishing composite products

We're also looking for someone who is comfortable being part of the broader manufacturing and assembly team. This isn't a position where you'll necessarily be completing fibreglass work for eight hours every day, so flexibility and a willingness to assist with other production and assembly duties will be important.

About You

You'll ideally be someone who:

  • Has previous hands-on experience working with fibreglass or composite materials
  • Enjoys practical manufacturing and assembly work
  • Is confident using hand and power tools
  • Has good mechanical aptitude
  • Can work accurately from measurements and instructions
  • Has strong attention to detail
  • Takes pride in the quality and finish of their work
  • Understands the importance of safe chemical and resin handling
  • Is comfortable working independently when required
  • Works well within a production team
  • Is willing to learn additional manufacturing processes
  • Is looking for stable, ongoing employment
Hours & Location

Monday to Friday, primarirly 7:30am to 3:30pm. The business operates across multiple Victorian manufacturing locations, and there may occasionally be a requirement to assist at another Melbourne-based facility. Further information regarding this can be discussed confidentially during the recruitment process.

What's on Offer
  • $38 - $42 per hour, depending on skills and experience
  • Full-time hours, Monday to Friday
  • Ongoing employment opportunity
  • Stable manufacturing environment
  • Opportunity to utilise specialist fibreglass experience
  • Variety across fibreglass, production and assembly work
  • Established and growing Australian manufacturer
  • Opportunity to broaden your manufacturing skill set
  • Supportive and experienced production team
  • Long-term opportunity for the right person
Interested?

If you've previously worked with fibreglass, composites, moulds or resins and you're looking for a new manufacturing opportunity in the Geelong region, we'd be keen to speak with you.

Apply through SEEK with an updated resume, or contact Workforce Extensions Geelong for a confidential discussion.
