Build Skills, Confidence and Career Pathways in Remote Communities

Work alongside Aboriginal adults and young people to build workplace skills, confidence and long-term career pathways within their workplaces and communities.

If you value real-life learning, trust-based relationships and supporting people where they live and work, this role offers the chance to make a meaningful difference across remote Barkly communities.

Why This Role Matters

For more than two decades, Central Desert Training (CDT) has partnered with remote communities to deliver culturally respectful and meaningful training and employment support.

The Barkly Remote Workforce Core Skills and Employment Program supports Aboriginal people to develop workplace skills, confidence and the support networks required to gain, maintain and progress in employment.

The program includes:

Stream A – Pre-Employment Program, which supports people preparing for employment through work readiness activities, obtaining identification and licences, completing nationally recognised Plan and Prepare for Work and White Card training, developing resumes and job applications, and building the practical skills, confidence and readiness required to enter the workforce.

Stream B – Core Skills and Employment Support Program, which provides workplace-based training, mentoring and support to employed participants to strengthen workplace skills, confidence and long-term employment outcomes.

This role sits primarily within the Stream B Program while working alongside Stream A participants as they transition into employment and ongoing workplace participation.

What This Role Offers You

• The opportunity to work across some of the most unique and culturally rich communities in Australia.

• A role with purpose - supporting local people to strengthen workplace skills, confidence and career pathways.

• Variety, autonomy and the opportunity to work closely with employers, community leaders and participants.

• Travel across the Barkly Region delivering workplace training and mentoring in three remote communities for approximately 35 weeks per year.

• A supportive workplace that values cultural awareness, respect and meaningful community engagement.

• An opportunity for an extraordinary professional experience or career change while living and working in Central Australia.

• Ideal for experienced trainers, teachers, community workers, youth workers or professionals seeking work with purpose, autonomy and strong community connections.

• The chance to work at the leading edge of remote workforce and community development, where relationships, practical skills and local employment outcomes genuinely matter.

Salary and Benefits

• Base salary of $85,000 – $95,000 per annum plus superannuation.

• Tax-free travel allowance of $120 per day while undertaking approved remote travel.

• Approximately 35 weeks of remote travel annually.

• Total remuneration package valued at approximately $115,000 – $125,000 per annum depending on salary level, travel undertaken and superannuation contributions.

• Annual travel benefit available following six months of employment in accordance with CDT policy.

• Professional development, networking opportunities and ongoing support.

What You'll Be Doing

• Plan, organise and deliver weekly workplace-based Core Skills, LLND and mentoring activities across allocated communities.

• Support participants to progress through Core Skills training activities, mentoring and individual case plans, ensuring learning remains meaningful and relevant to their work roles.

• Adapt and tailor training resources to meet each participant’s learning needs, strengths, goals and preferred learning styles.

• Work collaboratively with Community Liaison Officers to engage participants, support ongoing attendance and strengthen program delivery.

• Build strong relationships with local employers to understand workplace requirements and support participants to learn, grow and advance in their career pathways.

• Develop and submit weekly delivery plans and maintain accurate training and participant records.

• Support participants transitioning from the Stream A Pre-Employment Program into employment and ongoing workplace participation.

• Monitor learner progress, assess outcomes and report weekly training and mentoring activities in accordance with CDT procedures.

• Contribute to the development and improvement of CDT’s learning resources, assessment materials and professional practice.

• Participate in professional development, networking opportunities and regular team meetings.

About You

You'll thrive in this role if you:

• Have experience working with vulnerable people, including Aboriginal people and young people, and working in remote communities, ideally within Central Australia.

• Communicate with clarity, empathy and cultural sensitivity.

• Are resilient and adaptable to living and working in remote environments, confident travelling long distances, responding to changing circumstances, and able to adjust to varying travel and accommodation conditions.

• Enjoy managing your own workload and building positive relationships with participants, employers and communities.

• Have strong written, digital and organisational skills.

• Hold a current driver's licence and have 4WD experience.

• Can obtain (or already hold) a current National Criminal History Check and a current Ochre Card.

• Hold a Training and Assessment qualification or are willing to complete one.

We are seeking someone who is self-motivated, relationship-focused and committed to supporting adult learners to build practical skills, workplace confidence and meaningful career pathways.
