About Bialik College

Bialik College is a pluralist Jewish school, embracing an inclusive approach to Judaism. All students attend one campus in Hawthorn, creating a close-knit community of students and learners from as young as three months old in our Children’s Centre, three years old in the Early Learning Centre through to Year 12 in the Senior School. Students come from throughout Melbourne, with many travelling to school on public transport or Bialik buses.

The Position

Reporting to the Assistant Principal & Director of Jewish Life and the Manager - Bialik Children's Centre (0-3 Years). Your mission is to develop and implement informal experiences to enhance and enrich the children's Jewish life within our ELC (0-3 years).

This is a casual position working up to 12 hours per week, during school term time only. Days of work are set as Monday and Tuesday from 8:30am to 1:00pm and Friday 8:30am to 11:30am.

Duties and Responsibilities

Liaise with Head of Hebrew (Primary), Head of Informal Jewish Education, ELC under 3's Manager and ELC Room Leaders to guide content and interactions with children (0-3 years) based on what children are currently doing in their rooms and what festival is next on the Jewish calendar.

Speak in Hebrew throughout the day, both formally and informally.

Spark children’s curiosity about the meaning of symbols relating to the Jewish calendar.

Share songs and celebrate Jewish life with our children.

Welcome and support parents/ families whilst maintaining good relations and communication with parents.

Reflect and discuss with colleagues the work undertaken with children.

Maintain awareness of current best practice in early childhood in a Jewish and Reggio Emilia inspired environment.

Skills and Experience

Significant prior experience with children in a Jewish youth movement, Jewish communal organisation, or educational institution.

A pluralist outlook respecting a range of different steams of Judaism.

Outstanding ability to communicate and inspire.

Demonstrated contribution to Jewish life.

Be willing to obtain an Employee Working With Children Check & a Police Check.
