The Opportunity

KARI is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to support the financial integrity, compliance and reporting functions of the organisation. This is a hands-on role working closely with the Finance Manager and CFO across financial reporting, reconciliations, statutory compliance and finance process improvement.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Assistant Accountant who enjoys working across technical accounting, systems and operational finance while contributing to a collaborative and values-driven team.

Key Responsibilities

As the Assistant Accountant, you will:

Performing month-end procedures and preparing journals and reconciliations as required.

Assisting the team with accounts payable (including carer pays) and accounts receivable processes, troubleshooting and resolving key issues to ensure processes are completed in a timely manner.

Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, including review of coding, cost centre allocations, investigation, and correction of discrepancies.

Assist in monthly variance analysis of budget or forecast versus actual and investigate the cause of variances.

Overseeing the end-to-end expense management system and the card reconciliation process. Process and reconcile card transactions weekly in collaboration with the Accounts team and key stakeholders across the organisation. This includes supporting KARI Staff with queries and working with the software vendor to address queries.

Overseeing the accounting transactions and month-end accounting for specific programs or entities allocated by the Finance Manager.

Support the Accountant and Finance Manager with finance and payroll system-related tasks.

Identify efficiencies and lead process improvement. In collaboration with the Finance Manager and the Accounts Team, implement ideas proactively and collaboratively.

Supporting the fortnightly payroll processing, addressing queries, and providing back-up to the Accounting Officers as required.

Assist with Business Activity Statements, including GST checks, account reconciliations, and lodgement.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

CA/CPA qualification or working towards full CA/CPA qualifications.

2–3+ years’ experience in a similar accounting role

Experience with month-end, year-end and audit processes

Demonstrated experience with payroll processes

Experience with ERP systems (highly regarded)

Intermediate to advanced Excel skills

Strong attention to detail and time management skills

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

Experience in the Not-for-Profit sector (desirable)
