About The BUSY School Online ...

The BUSY School Online is an online platform of the BUSY School, which is part of The BUSY Group, a not-for-profit organisation presenting nearly 50 years as a community partner providing employment services, vocational education and training, apprenticeships, mentoring and allied health services.

The BUSY School (TBS) is an independent Queensland Special Assistance School offering alternative education for students in Years 11 and 12 who have disengaged from mainstream education. The BUSY School Online (TBSO) is a platform offered by TBS that provides an alternative, flexible, high-support online education pathway for young people in Years 11 and 12. Students re-engage with education through a model of online curriculum and practical vocational courses and employment pathways, while working toward senior certification.

The BUSY School Online provides a supportive and safe learning environment for young people by providing them with an education program that includes online curriculum, vocational education and training (VET), work experience and opportunities for school-based apprenticeships and traineeships. Our team support the students to gain employability and transferability skills to increases their sense of wellbeing, resilience, belonging, academic achievement, career exploration and employment outcomes.

Our teams’ focus is centred at re-engaging our students to learn, remain eligible for a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) and gain employment or further training outcomes upon student’s graduation from Year 12.

About the Position...

Due to rapid growth in TBSO, a Curriculum Co-ordinator position has become available. The Curriculum Co-ordinator will lead and support the online teaching team with curriculum development, online teaching and learning and all things QCAA.

You will assist in the development of appropriate syllabus resources, assessments, teaching learning and assessment plans, endorsement and quality assurance processes and advocate for quality online teaching. You will also pro-actively monitor student QCE/QCIA attainment and provide additional support to students in need.

This role would be perfect for someone who has experience working in Senior Schooling and is familiar with QCAA Student Management and the QCE/QCIA handbook. Online teaching experience, especially with Canvas, would be an advantage.

This role is a permanent full-time role and is currently timetabled 0.5 curriculum-coordinator and 0.5 teaching. As TBSO grows this will move to a 0.8 curriculum and a 0.2 teaching load. Currently the role is based at the TBS Strathpine campus.

About you...

  • Experience teaching in an online learning environment, ideally using Canvas (or similar) LMS
  • Motivated and genuine passion to support students learning in an Online environment, as part of holistic school team
  • Experience and/or understanding of trauma-informed practices, as well as experience supporting diverse needs of students through differentiated and engaging teaching practices.
  • Experience in curriculum planning and implementation of the Queensland senior Applied and Applied Essential syllabuses is highly desirable
  • Ability to lead teams in curriculum and assessment processes within the Senior School setting
  • A relevant teaching qualification and hold full registration or current provisional registration with eligibility for full registration as a Teacher in Queensland
