Overview:
This is a rare opportunity to lead a state‑based construction portfolio with a $200M+ annual capital program, overseeing new stores, major renewals and strategic projects that directly shape how millions of customers experience retail every day. You’ll be the person who sets the pace, the standards, and the future direction of construction delivery across your state.
Why this role matters — and why it’s a career milestone. This isn’t just project delivery. This is end‑to‑end ownership of a state construction function, influencing strategy, shaping growth, and driving operational excellence across a high‑performing team of 10–15 professionals.
You’ll be leading complex, high‑visibility projects that demand commercial acumen, stakeholder mastery, and the ability to deliver in live retail environments without disrupting trade. The scale, complexity and national impact of this portfolio will position you as a senior leader in one of the most dynamic construction ecosystems in the country.
If you’re aiming for future national leadership, GM roles, or executive pathways in property, construction or operations — this is the platform that gets you there.
What you’ll lead
- State-wide delivery of new stores, renewals and strategic projects from feasibility through approvals, construction and handover.
- Safety, quality and compliance excellence, embedding best practice and ensuring regulatory alignment.
- Financial leadership across a major capital program — budgeting, forecasting, cost control, tender reviews and commercial decision-making.
- High-level stakeholder engagement with contractors, suppliers, architects, engineers and internal business units.
- Strategic planning and growth, contributing to long-term departmental direction and national alignment.
- Team leadership, mentoring and developing a multi‑disciplinary construction team with succession planning and performance frameworks.
- Risk, governance and reporting, ensuring robust systems for programming, cost management, compliance and executive reporting.
Why you’ll thrive here
- You’ll influence state-wide retail transformation and see your work directly impact customer experience.
- You’ll operate with true autonomy, trusted to make commercial decisions and drive outcomes.
- You’ll join a national construction network that embraces innovation, continuous improvement, and new technologies.
- You’ll work across live environments, complex staging and fast-paced delivery — the kind of experience that sets senior leaders apart.
- You’ll build relationships with some of the most respected contractors, consultants and suppliers in the industry.
- You’ll be part of a culture that values safety, collaboration, operational excellence and high performance.
- A highly attractive package, plus bonuses and other benefits available.
What you bring
- Deep experience in construction project management and operational delivery, with formal qualifications in Engineering, Architecture, Construction or equivalent.
- Strong financial, programming and commercial capability.
- Ability to lead multi‑disciplinary teams and drive high performance.
- Knowledge of building codes, Australian Standards and retail construction environments.
- Confidence in navigating complex stakeholder landscapes and resolving disputes with professionalism.
- A strategic mindset — someone who sees beyond the project and understands how construction shapes business outcomes.
