About the Position
The North Australia and Rangelands Fire Information (NAFI) Service, managed by staff in the Research Institute for the Environment and Livelihoods, requires regular updates of the software application and supporting systems, as well as ongoing development drawing on fire management and remote sensing research.
The casual Spatial Software Engineer’s role is to support the Software Engineering team to deliver end-to-end solutions across web, mobile, and geospatial platforms. Responsibilities span frontend and backend development, DevOps automation, server administration, and emerging cloud initiatives - ensuring reliable, scalable, and maintainable software across the delivery lifecycle.
About You
To be successful, you will require:
- Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science and/or Environmental Science; Diploma/Batchelor’s degree or higher
- Ability to work with React-based frameworks; responsive UI development, component architecture, and cross-platform delivery (web and mobile)
- Knowledge of API design, database integration, and GIS-based backend services
- Ability to work with GitLab CI/CD, Bitbucket Pipelines, Docker; automated build, test, and deployment pipelines supporting continuous delivery workflows
- Ability to work with Apache HTTP Server administration on Red Hat Enterprise Linux; configuration, hardening, monitoring, and maintenance of production environments
- Knowledge of GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, open-source packages) and spatial data processing.
- Skills in Authentication and identity management via Clerk and WorkOS; prospective integration of Stripe for payment processing and subscription billing
- Ability to work with Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS) - prospective scope for upcoming projects, including infrastructure provisioning, deployment, and cloud-native service integration
- Commitment to the University’s values
Appointment is contingent upon receipt of a satisfactory National Criminal History check and a valid NT Working with Children clearance

Remuneration
Remuneration will be in line with the official CDU Salary Guide and hourly rate is depended on duties performed.
