About us

Today AQA continues to provide individualised supports to people with spinal cord injury and other physical disabilities. To read more about us, visit independenceaustralia.com.au.

About the role

We are seeking a patient, compassionate, and reliable Support Worker to provide dedicated in-home support to a softly spoken female client in the Brighton area.

Working as part of a 2:1 team alongside a second support worker, you will assist with morning personal care routines, complex bowel and urinary care, portable hoist transfers, meal preparation, and light domestic tasks. As our client has speech difficulties, patience and strong communication skills are essential. This role starts ASAP and is ideal for someone seeking consistent morning shifts in a supportive, pet-friendly environment as our client has her own pets.

Shifts on Offer

  • Consistent Morning Roster: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, 8:30 AM – 10:30 AM (2:1 shift working alongside a second team member).

What you will do

  • Personal Care & Support: Assist with showering, bowel care (suppository administration), and urinary care (changing continence pads).
  • Manual Handling & Mobility: Safely execute client transfers using a portable hoist alongside a second team member.
  • Meal Preparation & Medication: Prepare meals, assist with eating, and administer medications as outlined in the care plan.
  • Household Assistance: Perform general cleaning of the bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, and living room.
  • Communication & Engagement: Communicate with patience and clarity, actively supporting the client’s speech needs and maintaining a warm, supportive presence.

About you
To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Experience: Experienced Support Worker with a background in attendant care, personal care, and manual handling.
  • Key Skills: Confident in complex care (bowel/suppository care, continence management) and portable hoist transfers.
  • Key Attributes: Exceptionally patient, empathetic, a great communicator, comfortable working in a 2:1 team, and comfortable around cats.
  • Qualifications: Certificate III in Individual Support, Disability, or Aged Care (preferred), alongside a current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
  • Essential Credentials: Valid NDIS Worker Screening Check, Working with Children Check (WWCC), Australian Driver's Licence, and reliable personal transport.
