• Salary $132,119.06 to $153,257.31 p/a + super

About the role

As our Senior Urban Designer, you'll be Council's lead urban design specialist, driving the preparation of master plans, urban design strategies and place-based planning for key sites and precincts across Ku-ring-gai.

Working across strategic planning, development assessment and policy, you’ll provide expert urban design advice that shapes the future character of the municipality.You will collaborate with planners, architects, landscape architects, engineers, executives, Councillors, consultants and the community to champion high quality urban design and deliver attractive, sustainable and people-focused places.

Your duties will include, but are not limited to:

• Leading the preparation of urban design studies, master plans and precinct strategies for key sites and centres
• Providing expert urban design advice on planning proposals, State significant development, local development applications and strategic planning initiatives
• Preparing high-quality urban design concepts, visulaisations, 3D models and presentation materials that communicate design proposals
• Leading complex projects that involve multidisciplinary teams and external consultants
• Presenting urban design advice and recommendations to senior management, Councillors, stakeholders and the community
• Contributing to the development and review of key strategic planning documents including the Ku-ring-gai Local Environmental Plan 2015, Development Control Plan, Local Strategic Planning Statement, and housing and employment strategies, and other Council policies

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

• Tertiary qualification in architecture, planning, landscape architecture, or a related discipline, with eligibility for relevant professional accreditation. A postgraduate qualification in urban design is highly regarded
• Extensive experience in preparing urban design studies, master plans, precinct strategies or similar
• Demonstrated experience leading complex projects with multidisciplinary teams and managing external consultants to deliver high quality outcomes
• Advanced urban design and graphic communications skills, including proficiency in a range of 2D and 3D design software, including Adobe Creative Suite and SketchUp
• Excellent written, vebal and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex design issues to a wide range of audiences
• Strong analytical, problem solving and project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes within tight timeframes
