The City of Port Lincoln is the 'Seafood Capital of Australia' and an iconic and thriving South Australian regional coastal city on one of the world's largest protected harbours. Located 650km west of Adelaide by road, and connected to Adelaide by regular flight services, the City is a major service centre for the southern Eyre Peninsula communities and a key tourism destination.

Primary production including 50% of South Australia's wheat, barley and oil seed, together with a deep natural harbour and commercial fishing fleet, makes Port Lincoln a major agricultural export and fishing centre. Importantly, Port Lincoln is a popular visitor and lifestyle destination enhanced by numerous festivals, including the iconic “Tunarama Festival” and many events that contribute to the City's vitality and attraction.

Following a retirement, a new WHS Coordinator is sought to provide strategic leadership, specialist expertise, and operational oversight of Council’s Work Health and Safety (WHS) and Return to Work (RTW) functions. The position is responsible for planning, directing, controlling, and evaluating WHS systems and programs to ensure organisational compliance, continuous improvement, and achievement of Council’s corporate objectives.

Reporting to the Manager Governance, Risk and Communications and with one direct report, key responsibilities include:

Overseeing organisational wide WHS and Return To Work performance, systems, functions and compliance outcomes, ensuring alignment with legislative requirements and corporate objectives

Developing and implementing WHS strategy, frameworks and systems to support organisational performance and continuous improvement

Establishing and monitoring WHS performance outcomes, including KPIs and reporting frameworks

Ensuring organisational compliance with the Work Health and Safety Act 2012 (SA), Return to Work Act 2014 (SA), and associated standards.

Acting as Council’s primary liaison with WHS regulators, insurers and external oversight bodies

Influencing and negotiate outcomes with internal stakeholders, regulators, insurers and external providers

Providing leadership for the effective performance and supervision of Council’s WHS and Risk Officer.

We are seeking an experienced WHS professional with the ability to influence, negotiate and provide expert advice at Executive level and with a wide variety of stakeholders.

Experience working in a self-insured setting, and local government or other highly regulated/legislated familiarity would be ideal but not essential.
