About the role

Adelaide Colorectal & General Surgery is seeking an experienced and motivated Practice Nurse (Registered or Enrolled) to join their team. This is a pivotal role supporting surgeons, patients, and the broader practice team through a combination of clinical care, patient education, and administrative coordination. In this diverse and hands-on position, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth delivery of high-quality patient care across all stages of the surgical journey.

Key responsibilities

Managing patients' surgery bookings

Supporting surgeons during consulting sessions, chaperoning and patient education

Coordinating theatre lists and managing surgeon schedules

Conducting patient clinical assessments (including pre-procedure screening)

Booking Easy Access Colonoscopy and Endoscopy procedures

Providing pre- and post-operative care and patient education

Supporting patients with procedure preparation

Triaging referrals and escalating to surgeons as required

Managing patient enquiries and escalating clinical concerns to the surgeons as required

Liaising with hospitals, anaesthetists, and other healthcare providers

Coordinating emergency bookings and short-notice cases

Maintaining infection control standards and a clean clinical environment

Managing appointments, patient bookings, and recalls

Processing billing, Medicare claims, and payments

Maintaining accurate patient records and clinical documentation

Supporting the practice team to ensure efficient daily operations

About you

Current registration as a Registered or Enrolled Nurse with AHPRA

Previous experience in surgical, medical, perioperative, or specialist practice nursing

Strong clinical skills, particularly in post-operative care and patient education

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a patient-focused approach

High attention to detail and strong organisational abilities

The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment

Confidence working both independently and as part of a team

Experience with clinical software systems

Positive attitude
