Power and Water Corporation is a Northern Territory Government (NTG) owned utility that operates across a geographic area of 1.3 million square kilometres and within a range of diverse environmental conditions, ranging from the arid dry of the central desert to the tropical monsoon of the top end. The corporation generates, transmits and distributes electricity, supplies water and wastewater treatment services across the Northern Territory (NT) for the benefit of residents, including remote and isolated Aboriginal communities and outstations.

We are seeking a highly skilled Specialist Protection Engineer to join our Asset Management Team within the Power Services Business Unit.

The primary purpose of this role is to lead the development, management, and continuous improvement of power system protection schemes to ensure Power and Water's network meets required performance, safety, reliability, and risk management standards. The position focuses on the asset management, design, operation, and lifecycle optimisation of protection systems across the Northern Territory’s transmission and distribution networks, as well as generation assets in remote centres.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

A minimum three or four-year Engineering or Science degree recognised in Australia.

Demonstrated experience within the power industry, with a strong understanding of electrical systems and equipment used in the generation, transmission, and distribution of electrical power.

Proven technical expertise in protection systems and associated secondary systems applied within utility transmission and distribution networks.

Experience in the design, settings development, configuration, and commissioning support of protection systems for both greenfield and brownfield projects.

Strong capability in defining, planning, and managing technical and financial requirements for protection system capital works, maintenance, and repair programs.

Experience in the lifecycle management of protection assets and systems.

A sound understanding of emerging protection technologies, industry trends, and best practices, with the ability to drive innovation and continuous improvement.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, with a collaborative approach to working across multidisciplinary teams and external partners.

A proactive and solutions-focused mindset, with a demonstrated ability to influence change and deliver positive business outcomes.
