HSE Manager (Renewables) — Contract | Sydney, NSW

$1,100 – $1,200 + GST per day | 5 days per week | Immediate start

About the role

MMD Recruitment is partnering with a leading renewable energy business to appoint an experienced HSE Manager on a contract basis. Working across a major portfolio of transmission, BESS (Battery Energy Storage) and high-voltage power projects, you will take ownership of health, safety and environmental performance from front-end planning through to delivery.

This is a full-time contract engagement, five days per week, based in Sydney with travel to project sites as required. The client is ready to move quickly, an immediate start is available for the right person.

Key responsibilities

Develop and implement HSE policies, procedures and management systems tailored to transmission, BESS and HV construction environments

Lead risk assessments, hazard analyses and safety-in-design input across project stages

Investigate incidents and near-misses, determine root causes and drive corrective actions to closure

Deliver HSE training, coaching and toolbox engagement to site personnel and subcontractors

Monitor compliance, supporting regulations, and electrical and network safety standards

Maintain HSE records, statistics and reporting to track leading and lagging indicators

Liaise with regulators, environmental agencies, network operators and internal stakeholders

Conduct site inspections and audits, including subcontractor HSE performance reviews

Develop and manage emergency response and incident management procedures

Champion a visible, positive safety culture across all project teams

What we're looking for

15+ years' experience in HSE management, ideally across renewables, transmission, HV or major infrastructure construction

Direct exposure to BESS, substation, transmission line or large-scale renewable projects highly regarded

Tertiary qualification in WHS or equivalent

Strong working knowledge of Australian WHS legislation, including the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and associated regulations

Proven track record implementing HSE management systems and lifting safety performance

Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence at all levels, from crews to executive

Strong analytical capability and attention to detail in reporting and trend analysis

Experience with environmental compliance and approvals conditions on energy projects

Proficiency with HSE management software and Microsoft Office

Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel to project sites
