Legal Support Officer-Federal Government

  • Initial 6-month contract
  • Location: Sydney CBD (Full-time on-site role)
  • Must be an Australian Citizen eligible to obtain Baseline Security Clearance

DFP Recruitment is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Legal Support Officer to join a Federal Government organisation. This role provides a broad range of administrative and legal support services to legal practice groups, contributing to the efficient management and delivery of legal services within a dynamic and professional environment.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Legal Support Services team to support legal professionals through effective administration, case management, stakeholder engagement, and court-related support activities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create and administer case files, including records management, filing, photocopying and data entry.
  • Draft emails, routine correspondence and documents using approved templates.
  • Coordinate witnesses, prepare summonses and subpoenas, arrange travel, and support court-related activities.
  • Prepare court materials and undertake deliveries, collections, lodgements and filing of documentation.
  • Conduct basic research and coordinate video conferencing, interpreters and translators as required.
  • Liaise with legal professionals, courts, external agencies, counsel and other stakeholders.
  • Deliver efficient administrative support services while maintaining high standards of accuracy and professionalism.
  • Provide advice and assistance regarding established systems, processes and service offerings.
  • Perform research and analysis to resolve routine operational matters and enquiries.
  • Build and maintain positive stakeholder relationships to support business outcomes.
  • Manage competing priorities and complete allocated tasks within required timeframes.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues and contribute to a positive team culture.
  • Support broader organisational objectives through professional and responsive service delivery.
  • Use business systems and digital litigation tools to support the management of complex matters.
  • Undertake deliveries, collections and court filing activities within the CBD and court precinct as required.

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Australian Citizenship (mandatory).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an AGSVA Baseline Security Clearance.
  • Demonstrated experience in administrative support roles, preferably within a government and/or legal environment.
  • Experience using records management systems, case management systems or legal practice software.
  • Experience supporting court processes, litigation activities or legal teams.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to apply judgement and follow established procedures to resolve routine matters.
  • Demonstrated stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills.
  • Basic research and analytical skills with the ability to interpret information and resolve issues.
