We provide on demand, scheduled, and historical aerial data and analytics from sensors deployed to the stratosphere with persistent coverage, higher resolution, and increased value over traditional aerial and space imagery sources.

THE ROLE OF SYSTEMS ENGINEER

This isn’t just another job; it’s a mission. As Systems Engineer, you will build and sustain the technical foundation that enables Mission Control spanning console architecture, networks, imaging systems, and secure, reliable operations in our Melbourne environment.

You will design and configure mission consoles and supporting infrastructure, standardise security across physical, digital, and process domains, and help turn telemetry into usable products through analytics, dashboards, and integration of AI models and platforms. You’ll also provide local IT and system support to keep teams mission-ready.

As we scale, you’ll also step into live mission support as a Flight Operator (Control Position) when missions are active. A basic understanding of aviation/flight operations will give you a great head start.

In the Flight Operator (CP) seat, you’ll support real-time flight operations for our high-altitude balloon systems monitoring vehicle health, navigation, and communications, executing standard procedures, and backing the Flight Director through every phase of flight. It’s hands-on, high-trust work that underpins safe, continuous operations and creates a clear pathway to Flight Director.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

§ Design and implement Mission Control console architecture, including mission console configuration and build-out of the Melbourne Mission Control environment.

§ Lead network design and deployment to support mission operations, including imaging and mission console network setup, configuration, and troubleshooting.

§ Deploy and maintain imaging systems to ensure reliable capture, distribution, and availability of mission-relevant imagery to Mission Control and stakeholders.

§ Standardise security across physical, digital, and process domains, implementing consistent controls, access management, and operational hardening practices.

§ Develop and maintain telemetry analytics to improve system performance monitoring, anomaly detection, and operational decision-making.

§ Support AI model and platform integration, working with engineering and analytics teams to operationalise models and ensure secure, reliable data flows.

§ Build dashboards and develop data products that translate telemetry and mission data into actionable operational views for Mission Control and leadership.

§ Provide local IT and system support, including endpoint setup, user access, incident response, and coordination with global IT and security teams to keep the mission environment operational.

LIVE FLIGHT OPERATIONS (FLIGHT OPERATOR / CP) – WHEN MISSIONS ARE ACTIVE

· Monitor real-time telemetry, navigation data, and vehicle health.

· Execute standard operating procedures and checklists during flight.

· Support Flight Director decision-making with situational awareness and data analysis.

· Maintain accurate flight logs, pass-downs, and shift handovers.

· Monitor airspace boundaries and support regulatory compliance requirements.

· Assist with ascent, float, station-keeping, and termination operations.

· Coordinate with recovery teams as directed.

· Escalate anomalies or off-nominal conditions promptly.

· Support 24/7 operations including night and weekend shifts (as rostered).

· Participate in simulations and operational readiness activities.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE TEAM

You’ll thrive in an environment where uptime, reliability, and security matter. You bring strong systems thinking, a practical hands-on approach, and the ability to design, build, and support mission-critical technical environments under evolving operational needs.

This role is ideal for a systems engineer who enjoys building secure operational environments, from console architecture and network design through to imaging systems, telemetry analytics, and integration of AI-enabled tooling, while providing responsive local IT and system support.

For you to be successful you’ll also need:

§ Experience as a systems engineer (or similar) delivering mission-critical or operational technology environments, ideally in aerospace, defence, or other regulated contexts.

§ Strong foundations in network architecture and troubleshooting (e.g., routing/switching, segmentation, VPNs, firewalls) and the ability to design and document reliable network setups.

§ Experience implementing security controls across physical, digital, and process domains (e.g., access management, hardening, secure configuration, and operational procedures).

§ Hands-on capability with mission console configuration, imaging systems, and operational tooling; comfortable integrating hardware and software to support mission workflows.

§ Ability to work with telemetry and mission data to produce analytics, dashboards, and data products; experience integrating AI models and data platforms is advantageous, alongside a strong local IT and system support ethos.

Experience in regulated, security-conscious, defence, aerospace, or advanced technology environments is highly regarded. Familiarity with Mission Control systems, networked imaging, operational data platforms, and incident/change management practices is desirable, but strong judgement, curiosity, and clear communication are essential.

You’ll work closely with global leaders, Operations and Mission Control, and help build the Melbourne Mission Control capability from the ground up. As we grow, this role has scope to expand into broader Mission Systems Engineering, Mission Control architecture, and operational technology leadership.
