About the Client
Our client is a highly respected, crucial enterprise organisation responsible for managing critical infrastructure and digital solutions across New South Wales. Operating at the intersection of property and technology, they are currently modernising their extensive digital ecosystem, including core transactional portals, internet/intranet websites, and complex API integrations.

The Role
Reporting directly to the Head of Applications, you will play a pivotal role in the development, maintenance, and support of multiple core enterprise systems. This is a true hybrid role blending robust backend engineering, frontend enhancements, and complex system integrations.

You will be a technical anchor for the team—contributing to solution design, driving quality through automated testing, and mentoring junior developers, all while remaining hands-on with the code.

Key Responsibilities

  • End-to-End Development: Design, develop, and maintain multiple internal and external API interfaces, web applications, and relational databases.
  • Integration & Architecture: Leverage microservices and SOA-based application integrations to ensure seamless data flow across legacy and modern platforms.
  • Quality Assurance: Champion clean code by leading peer reviews, implementing unit testing, and developing automated test suites.
  • SDLC Lifecycle Management: Contribute technical expertise to requirements analysis, solution design, and release planning.
  • Application Support: Provide high-level problem resolution and investigation to minimise impacts on critical system availability.

Your Technical Toolkit

Essential Experience:

  • Strong experience with a range of 3GLs (Java or C# are highly regarded, exposure to Delphi or C++ is a plus).
  • Solid experience with relational database systems, particularly Oracle and MS SQL Server.
  • Excellent knowledge of API design and implementation (REST, SOAP).
  • Deep familiarity with *nix systems, shell scripting, scheduling, and cron jobs.
  • Hands-on experience in a DevOps environment with continuous build/test systems and version control (Bitbucket/Subversion).
  • Proficiency in front-end web technologies (JavaScript, HTML, CSS).

Highly Regarded (Nice to Have):

  • Experience with integration tools such as Dell Boomi or IBM WebSphere (WAS/MQ/IIB/ACE).
  • Cloud experience, preferably within AWS.
  • Frameworks and build tools like SpringBoot and Maven.

Soft Skills & Qualifications

  • A tertiary degree in IT/Computer Science or equivalent industry certifications.
  • Exceptional analytic and problem-solving skills with the ability to unpack complex legacy environments.
  • Strong communication skills with the confidence to collaborate constructively with technical management, peers, and external suppliers.
  • An autonomous mindset—capable of performing with minimal supervision on routine duties.

What's on Offer?

  • The chance to work on large-scale systems that impact millions of users across NSW.
  • A collaborative, technically diverse environment where continuous learning is genuinely supported.
  • Flexible hybrid working arrangements.
