About Kulkarriya Community School

Located near Noonkanbah along the Fitzroy River in the Kimberley region of Western Australia, Kulkarriya Community School is a community-led, culturally grounded independent school serving students from Kindergarten to Year 10. Established by local Aboriginal people to ensure that their children received an education that reflects their traditions, values and kinship systems, the school fosters a unique two-way learning model that values both Aboriginal languages and English.

With small class sizes (10–15 students), our team-teaching model supports collaborative learning with Aboriginal educators, focusing on culturally responsive delivery of the WA curriculum. Students speak English as a second or third language, with Walmajarri and Nyikina commonly spoken at home. We are proud of our strong, close-knit staff culture and are deeply connected with the community.
