One full time ongoing vacancy is available
The Northern Territory Government is seeking a capable and motivated Lawyer to join its Commercial Division, delivering high-quality legal services across a broad range of complex and impactful matters. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to significant government work while developing your expertise in a collaborative and supportive environment.
The Solicitor for the Northern Territory Commercial Division provides strategic and practical legal advice to government agencies, statutory bodies, and authorities. Working within a whole-of-government framework, the team advises on matters spanning major infrastructure projects, land development and property transactions, procurement and funding arrangements, as well as regulatory, native title, Aboriginal land and general commercial matters. In this role, you will contribute to this diverse practice by providing clear, solutions-focused legal advice and supporting key government initiatives.
You will be responsible for managing your own files and delivering high-quality legal services, including advising on complex matters, drafting contracts and legal documentation, and preparing correspondence and briefings. You will also work closely with senior lawyers and the Director to ensure matters progress effectively, while maintaining strong relationships with clients and stakeholders across government. Your ability to communicate legal concepts clearly and professionally, both in writing and in person, will be essential to your success.
The ideal candidate will be an admitted Australian legal practitioner who is eligible to hold a practising certificate in the Northern Territory. You will bring relevant legal experience, well-developed commercial drafting and negotiation skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. A strong sense of professionalism, sound judgement, and a commitment to delivering high-quality work under pressure are key attributes for this role.
Experience working with or within government, and an understanding of Territory legislation, policy frameworks, or legal processes will be highly regarded. An ability to apply legal knowledge in a practical setting and contribute positively to a team environment, including supporting more junior staff where appropriate, will further strengthen your application.
This role offers the opportunity to work on meaningful, high-profile matters that directly impact the Northern Territory community. You will be part of a professional and collaborative team, with access to ongoing development and the ability to broaden your experience across a diverse legal practice.
To apply, please submit your resume and a cover letter outlining your suitability.
