About the role

The Project Manager holds full accountability for the successful delivery of civil and construction projects for CONO Services, from award through to practical completion and defects liability. The role is the single point of accountability for project safety, quality, program, cost and client relationships. The Project Manager leads the project team – including Project Engineers, Site Engineers and Site Supervisors/Foremen – to deliver projects that meet contractual, commercial and HSEQ obligations, while building and protecting CONO Services' reputation with clients, principals and industry stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

  • Hold overall accountability for the safe, on-time and on-budget delivery of assigned projects, to the required quality standard.
  • Act as the primary point of accountability to the Executive General Manager and the client for project outcomes.
  • Lead project planning, mobilisation and establishment, ensuring resources, systems and controls are in place from the outset.
  • Oversee project close-out, handover, defects liability and final account processes.
  • Manage project budgets, cost control and monthly cost/value reconciliation, working closely with the Finance team.
  • Oversee progress claims, variations, subcontract procurement, payments and forecasting to protect project margin.
  • Identify and pursue commercial opportunities and manage contractual risk, including claims and disputes.
  • Develop, monitor and update project programs, identifying critical path activities and delays.
  • Act as the primary client contact, building strong working relationships with clients, superintendents and consultants.
  • Champion a strong safety, quality and environmental culture across the project, in partnership with the HSEQ Manager.

About you

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience (typically 8+ years) in civil and/or construction project delivery, including demonstrated experience as a Project Manager on projects of comparable scale and value.
  • Strong commercial and contract administration experience (e.g. AS4000, AS2124, GC21 or equivalent forms of contract).
  • Sound understanding of WHS, environmental and quality obligations applicable to construction projects.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Current driver's licence and White Card (General Construction Induction).
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to build and motivate high-performing teams.
  • Excellent commercial acumen and negotiation skills.
  • Highly developed communication and stakeholder management skills across all levels, internal and external.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgement under pressure.
