Are you an experienced Learning and Development professional who wants to make an impact on a national scale by designing and implementing transformative Cultural Safety learning initiatives?

I am currently partnering with a prominent Federal Government client in the disability sector with an exciting and specialised role of Assistant Director, Cultural Safety Learning (EL1). This is a critical role within the Cultural Safety Learning, Capability and Partnerships Branch, First Nations Group. Applications from First Nations peoples are strongly encouraged.

About the Opportunity

In this pivotal role, you will lead the development and implementation of cultural safety learning and development initiatives that will build workforce capability to improve access to disability services for First Nations peoples. You will ensure staff can create conditions for cultural safety and better meet the needs and aspirations of First Nations communities, aligning with strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading the design, development, and implementation of complex training, learning, and workplace capability development initiatives, incorporating risk, governance, and co-design principles.
  • Building and maintaining trusted, respectful, and effective relationships with First Nations peoples, communities, organisations, and leaders, ensuring genuine partnership and co-design approaches.
  • Applying high-level instructional design capabilities (utilising the ADDIE model) and adult learning expertise to develop effective learning solutions.
  • Employing strong project and program management methodologies to ensure accurate planning, monitoring, reporting, and timely delivery of outcomes.
  • Analysing diverse data sources, assessing policy impacts, and developing evidence-based recommendations in complex and ambiguous environments.
  • Leading high-performing teams, managing resources, setting priorities, and driving strategic policy and organisational change.
  • Preparing high-quality reports and briefs, and representing the agency in high-level forums and negotiations.

Ideally you will possess:

  • Demonstrated experience working with First Nations peoples, communities, and/or organisations.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, training, human resources, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or contributing to training design and/or delivery, particularly in First Nations policy or service delivery contexts.
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122 or equivalent).
  • Experience working with or within federal government agencies (such as NIAA, Department of Health Disability and Ageing) or Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations.
  • Tertiary qualifications in public policy, social sciences, law, Indigenous studies, or a related field.
