What you'll be doing

The FWLHD – Mental Health Clinician (Disaster) will apply their in-depth levels of clinical expertise and extensive specialised knowledge to plan, coordinate, and implement evidence based, trauma informed, assessments and treatment plans to consumers who have psychological distress following exposure to declared disaster events including drought, fire and floods. This clinical position works alongside and complements the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program (RAMHP).

How to apply
To be considered for this position, please ensure you address the selection criteria in the application as thoroughly as possible:

1. Applicants must meet 1 of the below criteria:

a) Occupational Therapy Level 3 AHPRA reg as an Occupational Therapist & have min 3 yrs clinical exp or post grad qual in MH. b) Social Worker Level 3 Bach of Social Work with eligibility for membership to AASW & have min 3 yrs clinical exp or post grad qual in MH. c) Grad of the Djirruwang Bach of Health Science program & have min 3 yrs clinical exp or post grad qual in MH. d) Psychologist Yr 4 or above AHPRA reg, full reg with Psychology Board of Aust & have min 4 yrs clinical exp. e) Senior Psychologist AHPRA reg, full reg with the Psychology Board of Aust & have min 1 yr exp at the 9th yr of service & thereafter point on the salary scale for Psychologist. f) Clinical Nurse Consultant 1 AHPRA reg as a RN with min 5 yrs FTE post reg clinical exp & post grad qual's relevant to area of specialty.

  1. Extensive experience in assessment, intervention and care coordination in Mental Health Services.
  2. Demonstrated ability to independently problem solve, apply professional and ethical boundaries when working with complex situations as per of a multidisciplinary team.
  3. Extensive contemporary experience and knowledge of psychological practice, as well as demonstrated understanding of the principles of trauma informed care and its application when working with consumers/families/carers who have experienced declared disaster events.
  4. Highly developed written and verbal communication skills and competence in the use of information technology systems including electronic medical record and telehealth systems.
  5. Available to work across FWLHD sites on request and the ability to travel for work purposes including overnight stays when necessary.
  6. Current unrestricted Australian drivers licence (P2 licence acceptable) subject to obtaining NSW drivers licence within 3 months of appointment.

Bordering three states, Far West Local Health District (LHD) covers 194,949 square kilometres in remote NSW. The LHD is sparsely populated, with 62% of its approximately 30,000 inhabitants living in the Silver City of Broken Hill. The remainder of the population live in agricultural towns along the Murray River, in small remote communities of 80-800 people or on stations throughout the LHD.
