Human Resources & Training Officer

Larrakia Cultural Centre | Darwin, NT

Full-time permanent position | Immediate start

The Larrakia Cultural Centre is preparing to open in September 2026 and will be a place for Larrakia people to share, celebrate and showcase Larrakia Country, Language, Culture and Knowledge with the world.

We are seeking an experienced Human Resources & Training Officer to join the team immediately and support the establishment of the Centre’s workforce, HR systems, training programs and workplace culture ahead of opening.

Reporting to the CEO, this is a hands-on role suited to an HR professional who enjoys building strong systems, supporting managers and employees, and contributing to a culturally safe and high-performing workplace.

The role

The Human Resources & Training Officer will support the delivery of human resources, workforce development and training functions across the organisation.

Key responsibilities will include:

Coordinating recruitment, interviews, selection and onboarding

Preparing employment contracts, position descriptions and workforce documentation

Maintaining employee records, HR systems and reporting

Supporting managers with performance management and employee relations matters

Coordinating induction and mandatory training for employees, contractors and volunteers

Developing and monitoring workforce training plans

Supporting cultural awareness, WHS, emergency response, customer service and leadership training

Assisting with workforce planning, capability development and succession planning

Supporting employee wellbeing, engagement and retention initiatives

Monitoring compliance with Fair Work, employment legislation, WHS obligations and organisational policies

Assisting with HR audits, reporting and workforce-related projects

Promoting a respectful, inclusive and culturally safe workplace

What we are looking for

We are seeking an organised, approachable and experienced HR professional who can work confidently in a fast-paced establishment environment.

To be successful, you will have:

A relevant qualification in Human Resources, Business, Organisational Development or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience

Proven experience across recruitment, onboarding, workforce planning and employee relations

Experience coordinating staff training and professional development programs

Strong knowledge of Australian employment legislation, Fair Work requirements and workplace policies

Experience supporting performance management and workplace culture initiatives

Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

Excellent organisational and project coordination capability

The ability to manage confidential and sensitive information with discretion

A genuine commitment to the vision and purpose of the Larrakia Cultural Centre

Respect for Aboriginal culture, communities and cultural protocols

Highly regarded

The following experience or qualifications will be viewed favourably:

Experience working within an Aboriginal organisation, cultural institution, museum, gallery, tourism organisation, government or not-for-profit environment

Knowledge of Indigenous employment and workforce development initiatives

Certificate IV in Training and Assessment

Experience using Employment Hero or another HR information system

Understanding of workplace health and safety obligations

Experience delivering cultural competency, diversity or inclusion training

Knowledge of Aboriginal cultural protocols and community engagement

Current Driver’s Licence

Additional requirements

The successful applicant will be required to:

Be available to commence immediately

Hold or obtain a current NT Ochre Card

Hold or obtain a satisfactory National Police Check

Be available to work occasional evenings or weekends when required
