Newtown Mission is seeking a Volunteer Coordinator to lead and grow the volunteer program at Jordan Café, a welcoming community space that supports people experiencing vulnerability and social isolation in Sydney’s Inner West.

About the Role
The Jordan Café Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the ongoing development, delivery and continuous improvement of the Jordan Café volunteer program.
Working closely with staff, volunteers and community partners, you will recruit, support and retain volunteers while ensuring the program remains engaging, effective and aligned with Newtown Mission's community development goals.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement a structured volunteer program
Identify volunteer needs and create volunteer role descriptions in collaboration with stakeholders
Recruit, screen and onboard volunteers and be the main contact point
Coordinate volunteer induction, training and ongoing support
Coordinate volunteer involvement in special events, including the Christmas Day Lunch program (attendance not essential)
Develop volunteer engagement and retention strategies
Plan volunteer appreciation and engagement activities
Maintain volunteer databases, records and reporting systems
Ensure compliance with WHS, Safe Church and organisational requirements
Prepare reports on volunteer engagement, retention and program outcomes
Develop promotional and communication materials for volunteer recruitment
Support ongoing improvement of procedures and practices within the Jordan Café
About You
You are an organised and relationship-focused professional who enjoys working with diverse people and communities.
You will bring:
Experience coordinating volunteers or managing a workforce
Strong interpersonal, communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Demonstrated ability to recruit, motivate and retain volunteers
Excellent organisational and administrative skills
Experience managing multiple priorities and stakeholders
A commitment to community development and social inclusion
A willingness to work within the ethos and values of the Uniting Church in Australia
Essential Requirements
Qualification in Community Services, Human Resources, Volunteer Management or a related field, or equivalent experience
Current Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain)
Current National Police Check (or willingness to obtain)
The right to work in Australia
Desirable
First Aid Certificate
Cert IV in Coordination of Volunteer Programs
