About the role
Centralian Motors (NT) Pty Ltd is seeking a skilled Motor Mechanic and/or Technician to join our team in Alice Springs, NT. This is a full-time position based at our Alice Springs facility (0870). In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining motor vehicles to the highest standards, ensuring our customers receive reliable and safe vehicles. This position is crucial to our operations, as we depend on experienced technicians to deliver quality workmanship and maintain our reputation for excellence in the automotive trades.
What you'll be doing
Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults using diagnostic equipment and technical knowledge
Performing routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, and tyre rotations
Repairing and replacing vehicle components such as engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, and electrical systems
Conducting pre-service inspections and compiling detailed repair estimates for customers
Performing welding, fabrication, and metalwork as required for vehicle repairs
Testing vehicles after repairs to ensure all work meets safety and quality standards
Maintaining accurate service records and documentation for all work completed
Adhering to workshop safety standards and best practices in automotive repair
Communicating effectively with customers regarding repair requirements and timelines
Keeping abreast of new automotive technologies and repair techniques
What we're looking for
A recognised automotive trade qualification or apprenticeship in motor mechanics or automotive technology
Proven experience working as a motor mechanic or technician in a professional workshop environment
Competency in diagnosing and repairing a range of vehicle makes and models
Proficiency with diagnostic tools and computer-based vehicle systems
Strong understanding of engine mechanics, electrical systems, hydraulics, and vehicle safety requirements
Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Valid driver's licence and willingness to undertake road tests
Sound knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements and automotive industry standards
Exceptional communication and customer service skills
Physical capability to lift heavy components and work in various positions for extended periods
Preferred: Additional qualifications in diesel mechanics, heavy vehicle servicing, or specialised automotive systems
