GBS Recruitment is conducting a nationwide search for a capable Family Lawyer to join Taylor & Barnes, a highly regarded legal practice in regional Victoria.
This opportunity could suit a mid-level solicitor ready to take greater ownership of their matters or an experienced family law practitioner seeking a senior position with leadership and mentoring responsibilities. The scope of the role, level of autonomy and remuneration package will be tailored to reflect the experience and capability of the successful candidate.
You will manage a diverse family law caseload, providing practical, accurate and empathetic advice to clients who are often navigating challenging and emotionally complex circumstances. Working both independently and collaboratively with the Principal, other solicitors and the broader support team, you will play an important role in delivering timely and meaningful outcomes for clients.

Key Responsibilities
Depending on your level of experience, your responsibilities will include:
- Providing comprehensive advice across divorce, parenting arrangements, property settlements, de facto relationships, spousal maintenance, child support, family violence and binding financial agreements
- Conducting initial consultations and advising clients on their rights, responsibilities and available options
- Managing family law matters from initial instruction through to resolution
- Building trusted client relationships through clear, regular and empathetic communication
- Drafting applications, responses, affidavits, consent orders, subpoenas, parenting plans, financial statements and correspondence
- Representing clients in negotiations, mediations, family dispute resolution conferences, conciliation conferences, arbitration and collaborative law processes
- Preparing comprehensive briefs and liaising with barristers, experts, accountants, financial advisers, valuers and other professionals
- Ensuring court documents are accurately prepared, filed and served within required timeframes
- Maintaining accurate file notes, time records and billing entries
- Monitoring file progression and assisting with the management of aged debtors
- Remaining current with changes to legislation, case law, practice directions and court procedures
For more experienced candidates, the position may also include:
- Supervising and mentoring solicitors, graduates, paralegals and support staff
- Reviewing work to ensure accuracy, quality and compliance
- Supporting the induction, training and professional development of team members
- Contributing to the continued development and success of the Family Law practice
About You
To be considered, you will have:
- A recognised degree in Law
- A current Victorian Practising Certificate, or the ability and willingness to obtain one before commencing
- Demonstrated experience managing family law matters
- Sound knowledge of the Family Law Act, relevant Victorian legislation and Federal Circuit and Family Court procedures
- Strong drafting, negotiation and file-management skills
- The ability to manage competing priorities and meet court-imposed deadlines
- A professional, practical and empathetic approach to working with clients
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team
