Our client is a part of the Iconic Snowy Hydro 2.0 project in Cooma. They are a leading heavy mechanical engineering, services and contracting business operating throughout Australia and New Zealand in major capital cities and regional locations. They perform an integral role in the development of ANZ infrastructure across mining and resources, transport and power markets.

Location: Lobs Hole, Kosciuszko National Park, NSW
Roster: 17/7 FIFO – 12-hour day shifts
Salary: $260k - $300k (Depending on Experience) + Super + 25% Site Uplift

THE ROLE
Reporting to the Construction Manager (BOP), the BOP Mechanical Area Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient and compliant delivery of all assigned Balance of Plant (BoP) mechanical construction activities across the Snowy Hydro 2.0 Project.

This is a senior site leadership role overseeing Mechanical Superintendents, Supervisors, Engineers, QA/QC personnel and subcontractors while driving construction performance, safety, quality and productivity across a large and complex EPC environment.

Key responsibilities include:

• Lead and manage all Balance of Plant mechanical construction activities within your assigned area.
• Develop and execute construction strategies aligned with major project milestones and commissioning schedules.
• Provide leadership to Mechanical Superintendents, Supervisors, Engineers and subcontractors to ensure safe and efficient project delivery.
• Monitor construction performance against schedule, productivity, cost and quality targets while proactively removing project constraints.
• Ensure all works are construction-ready with approved work packs, IFC drawings, methodologies, SWMS, ITPs and material availability prior to execution.
• Drive a strong Zero Harm culture through visible leadership, field engagement and proactive safety management.
• Ensure compliance with Voith procedures, FGJV requirements, WHS legislation and project-specific safety standards.
• Lead mechanical installation activities across Balance of Plant systems including cooling water, drainage and dewatering systems, piping networks, oil handling and purification systems, fire protection systems, HVAC interfaces, workshop equipment and permanent lifting equipment.
• Drive first-time quality outcomes by ensuring compliance with Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), managing NCRs and coordinating inspections with QA/QC teams and client representatives.
• Monitor labour productivity, contractor performance and resource utilisation while supporting budget management, forecasting and cost control.
• Build strong working relationships across Engineering, Project Controls, Procurement, Commissioning, Quality, HSE, Snowy Hydro, FGJV and subcontractor teams.
• Support mechanical completion, commissioning and progressive system handovers, ensuring documentation and punch list closeout requirements are achieved.
• Provide accurate daily, weekly and monthly reporting while monitoring KPIs relating to safety, productivity, schedule, workforce utilisation and quality performance.

ABOUT YOU
You are a proven mechanical construction leader who thrives delivering complex infrastructure projects within high-performing EPC environments.
You will ideally possess:

• Trade Qualification in a Mechanical discipline and/or Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management.
• Minimum 10-15 years' experience delivering large-scale mechanical construction projects.
• At least 5 years in a senior leadership position managing mechanical construction teams.
• Demonstrated experience delivering Balance of Plant, heavy industrial, mining, power generation, hydroelectric or major infrastructure projects.
• Strong experience managing Mechanical Superintendents, Supervisors, Engineers and multiple subcontractors across complex construction packages.
• Excellent understanding of mechanical installation, piping systems, commissioning processes, Australian Standards and quality management systems.
• Proven capability managing construction planning, interface coordination, contractor performance and project scheduling.
• Strong commercial awareness with experience monitoring productivity, budgets, forecasting and variations.
• Outstanding leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to build high-performing project teams.
• White Card and Current Driver's Licence.
• Previous hydroelectric, underground construction or large EPC project experience will be highly regarded.

PROJECT INFORMATION
Snowy 2.0 is the next generation of the iconic Snowy Mountains Hydroelectric Scheme, and construction of this major pumped hydro project is well underway. Once complete, the Scheme will provide 2,000 megawatts of dispatchable, on-demand renewable power and approximately 350,000 megawatt hours of large-scale energy storage to the Australian National Electricity Market.
