Are you an experienced finance and operations professional who enjoys combining strong financial management with the practical oversight of a growing business?

We are seeking a capable and commercially minded Finance & Operations Manager to take ownership of the financial administration and day-to-day operational functions of an established professional services / financial planning business.

This is a broad, hands-on role suited to someone who is equally comfortable working with budgets, cash flow, payroll and management reporting as they are improving business processes, coordinating compliance, supporting people operations and managing key service providers.

Working closely with senior leadership, you will provide the financial visibility and operational discipline needed to support effective decision-making and ensure the business runs smoothly. The underlying position has responsibility for financial planning, budgets, financial insights and broader business operations.

What you'll be responsible for

Finance & reporting

A key focus of the role will be taking ownership of the business's day-to-day finance function, including:

Managing budgets, cash flow forecasts and expense tracking

Performing bookkeeping, transaction management and coding

Preparing financial and management reports

Analysing financial performance and identifying trends and insights

Managing payroll and employee superannuation

Reconciling bank transactions, supplier invoices and client receipts

Preparing and submitting BAS, IAS and other required ATO lodgements

Supporting annual and cash flow budgeting

Maintaining accurate financial records for audit and tax purposes

Liaising with external accountants regarding tax, lodgements and reporting.

These responsibilities reflect the substantial finance component of the position, which spans budgeting, bookkeeping, financial analysis, reporting, payroll, reconciliations and statutory lodgements.

Business operations

Alongside finance, you will oversee and coordinate a range of operational functions, including:

Driving improvements to business processes, systems and workflows

Managing relationships with external suppliers and service providers

Coordinating IT support, technology procurement, software licenses and user access

Overseeing key business systems, subscriptions and digital platforms

Managing company insurance policies and operational records

Coordinating travel, facilities and general office requirements

Ensuring the business maintains an organised, efficient and professional operating environment.

The role has broad responsibility for technology, suppliers, business systems, insurance, records and general office operations.

Compliance & risk

You will also support the business's compliance and risk-management framework by:

Maintaining compliance registers and supporting documentation

Monitoring and maintaining breach and conflict-of-interest registers

Identifying operational risks and supporting appropriate mitigation

Ensuring relevant policies and procedures remain current

Supporting workplace health and safety compliance.

Experience in a regulated or professional services environment will be particularly valuable, given the position's involvement in compliance documentation and registers.

People operations

You will provide practical support across the employee lifecycle, including:

Coordinating recruitment administration and interviews

Preparing employment documentation

Managing onboarding and induction processes

Coordinating payroll-related employee setup

Maintaining confidential employee records

Maintaining HR policies and procedures

Supporting the smooth administration of day-to-day people matters.

The position is responsible for recruitment administration, employment documentation, onboarding and maintaining employee records and HR procedures.

About you

You are likely to be an experienced finance, operations or business management professional who enjoys taking ownership and working across different areas of a business.

You will ideally bring:

5+ years' experience in finance administration, business operations, business management or a similar role

Strong bookkeeping and financial administration capability

Experience with budgeting, cash flow, payroll, reconciliations and financial reporting

Working knowledge of Xero and confidence using cloud-based business systems

Experience coordinating broader business operations, suppliers and corporate services

Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities

Strong attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills

Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills

A high degree of professionalism, discretion and confidentiality.

A qualification in business, accounting or a related discipline would be well regarded. Experience within financial services, accounting or another professional services environment would also be advantageous. Bookkeeping experience and/or BAS Agent registration is desirable but not essential.

The opportunity

This is not a narrowly defined accounting role or a traditional office management position.

It is an opportunity to become a key operational partner to senior leadership, with visibility across the financial and operational performance of the business and the ability to influence how things are done.

You will have the opportunity to improve processes, strengthen financial reporting, solve operational problems and help create the systems and structure that allow the broader team to perform at its best.

If you enjoy bringing together finance, systems, people and operations and want a role where you can make a tangible contribution across the business, we'd like to hear from you.
