Fantastic work culture

This respected, privately owned Australian property and infrastructure business has earned a strong national name through decades of delivering major projects. With new leadership recently in place, it's actively investing in technology, sustainability and its people — a business clearly on the front foot, offering the stability, genuine career progression and focus on employee wellbeing that can be hard to come by.

A great opportunity has opened for a Payroll Manager to take complete ownership of the payroll function for a diverse national workforce. Reporting to the Financial Controller, this standalone role will suit an experienced payroll professional who values autonomy and wants to run things their way, with support on hand across the broader finance team. Your responsibilities will include:

Running end-to-end payroll across weekly, wages/EBA and monthly staff, in line with legislation, awards, EBAs and company policy

Accurately processing weekly and monthly timesheets with strong process and governance

Interpreting and applying multiple enterprise agreements and modern awards across several states

Processing payroll cost journals and reconciling payroll, superannuation, tax and clearing accounts

Ensuring compliance with PAYG, payroll tax, superannuation guarantee and leave entitlements

Managing onboarding, terminations and accurate records across the employee lifecycle

Administering employee deductions, salary packaging, novated leases and related payments

Completing month-end reporting, Single Touch Payroll (STP) and end-of-year (EOFY) processing

Acting as the key contact for payroll queries and driving continuous improvement across the function

To be considered, you'll be an experienced payroll professional with 7-8 years behind you, having run end-to-end payroll independently and confident owning the function from start to finish. You bring strong knowledge of multi-state payroll, award and EBA interpretation and Australian payroll compliance, ideally with exposure to project-based workforces and state-based EBAs. Accurate, organised and calm under pressure, you communicate well across all levels and handle sensitive information with discretion. You're happy working autonomously but value being part of a supportive finance team.
