Job Title: Senior Database Administrator / Senior Database Engineer

Qualification: Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related discipline (equivalent professional certifications, e.g. Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate, will also be considered)

Experience: 3 - 5 Years

Skills/Domain: 3-5 years of hands-on experience administering and supporting Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases in enterprise production environments

Job Responsibilities

Ø Administered, configured, and supported Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL databases across Development, UAT, Staging, Disaster Recovery, and Production environments.

Ø Installed, configured, upgraded, migrated, and maintained SQL Server and PostgreSQL database environments.

Ø Designed, built, and maintained Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines for end-to-end database deployments, including schema changes, stored procedures, functions, triggers, views, indexes, constraints, and rollback strategies.

Ø Planned, coordinated, and executed production database deployments while adhering to change management processes and minimizing downtime.

Ø Designed and maintained database architecture, schemas, tables, constraints, indexes, stored procedures, functions, triggers, views, and other database objects.

Ø Led SQL Server version upgrades (Standard Edition to Enterprise Edition), including planning, testing, migration, rollback planning, and production cutover.

Ø Configured and administered Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL, including parameter groups, security configuration, monitoring, backups, maintenance, and performance optimization.

Ø Configured and supported SQL Server Transactional Replication for near real-time data synchronization.

Ø Administered SQL Server Failover Cluster Instances (FCI), including shared storage management, cluster drive configuration, failover testing, cluster monitoring, and high availability support.

Ø Planned, implemented, and tested backup, recovery, disaster recovery (DR), and business continuity strategies.

Ø Created and maintained SQL Server Maintenance Plans, including automated backups, DBCC integrity checks, index maintenance, statistics updates, cleanup jobs, and scheduled maintenance.

Ø Performed database performance tuning, query optimization, execution plan analysis, index optimization, statistics management, blocking analysis, deadlock troubleshooting, and capacity planning.

Ø Monitored database health, storage utilization, replication, server performance, and proactively resolved production issues.

Ø Designed, developed, and supported end-to-end ETL/ELT data pipelines for batch processing using SQL, SSIS, Python, Shell scripting, SQL Server Agent, and Windows Task Scheduler.

Ø Planned and executed database migration projects, including schema migration, historical data migration, and large-volume data loading.

Ø Performed SQL Server patching, cumulative updates (CU), security updates, and planned maintenance activities across Development, UAT, Staging, and Production environments.

Ø Provided staging, production, and weekend production support for mission-critical enterprise applications, ensuring high availability and business continuity.

Ø Collaborated with Microsoft Level 4 Support Engineers to troubleshoot complex production issues, perform root cause analysis (RCA), and implement permanent solutions.

Ø Managed database user accounts, logins, service accounts, roles, permissions, and Role-Based Access Control (RBAC), ensuring compliance with security, audit, and User Access Management (UAM) policies.

Ø Conducted database risk assessments, audit compliance activities, security reviews, SSL certificate implementation, database hardening, and vulnerability remediation.

Ø Reviewed, validated, and approved database deployment scripts submitted by application teams, ensuring compliance with security, performance, coding standards, and database best practices.

Ø Performed deployment impact analysis, release readiness assessments, rollback planning, and production implementation approvals.

Ø Prepared and maintained database architecture documents, technical specifications, deployment guides, operational runbooks, disaster recovery documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and support documentation.

Ø Collaborated closely with application development teams, infrastructure teams, DevOps engineers, cloud engineers, and vendors to deliver secure, scalable, and highly available database solutions.

Ø Worked with application teams to troubleshoot database-related issues, optimize SQL queries, and support application releases.

Ø Coordinated with infrastructure teams for server provisioning, storage allocation, operating system maintenance, SQL Server clustering, networking, SSL certificate implementation, patching, and infrastructure upgrades.

Ø Participated in production change management, release management, incident management, problem management, and post-implementation reviews.

Ø Mentored junior DBAs and developers on SQL Server administration, database design, performance tuning, deployment standards, and operational best practices.
