The Measurement, Analytics and Technologies (MAT) division drives innovation in assessment science and data-driven solutions, with a strong focus on advancing analytics capability, modernising data infrastructure and embedding AI across the organisation.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Data Scientist to join the Data Science and Automation Program (Statistical Software and Analytics team).

In this role, you will contribute to the development of AI-enabled data science solutions, from proof-of-concept through to operational delivery. You will work alongside senior team members to develop analytical tools, machine learning models and data products that support ACER's assessment, reporting and research activities.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and deliver tested, version-controlled software and data products

Apply AI, machine learning and NLP techniques to solve analytical and statistical problems

Support the transition of proof-of-concept solutions into production environments

Work with structured and unstructured data using SQL, Python and/or R

Develop analytical outputs and data products to support Power BI and reporting solutions

Contribute to the testing, validation and monitoring of data science models and workflows

Apply responsible AI principles including privacy, fairness, explainability and reproducibility

Collaborate with internal stakeholders and IT teams to deliver scalable cloud-based solutions

Contribute to technical documentation and ongoing product maintenance

Support continuous improvement and innovation across the organisation

What You'll Bring

3+ years' experience in data science, AI, advanced analytics or a related field

Strong programming skills in Python and/or R

Experience applying machine learning, NLP or AI techniques in operational settings

Experience working with SQL and complex datasets

Understanding of cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure

Familiarity with Agile delivery practices and tools such as Jira and Confluence

Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills

Ability to work collaboratively with technical and non-technical stakeholders

Postgraduate qualification (Master's degree or PhD) in a relevant discipline
