About the Role

Are you passionate about nature, love working with people, and thrive in an active, outdoor environment? We're looking for an energetic and customer-focused individual to join our team as a Driver & Tour Guide, based in the stunning Cradle Mountain region.

In this unique role, you'll live and work at Cradle Mountain during your rostered shifts, helping visitors explore one of Tasmania's most iconic destinations. From leading scenic walks to wildlife night tours, operating vehicle transfers, assisting with shuttle services and supporting our on-site retail outlet, you'll be a key part of delivering exceptional visitor experiences.

This is an active, hands-on role where you'll need to be comfortable working in a remote environment as part of a passionate and close-knit team.

Seasonal Requirements

Cradle Mountain is a year-round tourism destination, with our operations changing throughout the seasons.

September to April: Our peak tourism season, with longer working days and increased tour and visitor activity.

May to August: Our quieter winter period, with reduced operating requirements and shorter working days.

Weekend and public holiday work forms part of the role due to the nature of tourism operations.

Accommodation is provided on-site at Cradle Mountain during rostered shifts.

During your working days, your responsibilities will include:

Leading guided walks and wildlife night spotting tours

Conducting vehicle transfers in and around the Cradle Mountain area

Assisting with shuttle services and other driving duties as required

Manning the on-site retail shop during scheduled times

Preparing, cleaning and maintaining vehicles based at Cradle

Key Responsibilities

Provide outstanding customer service and visitor support at Cradle Mountain

Educate and assist guests on local trails, safety protocols and natural features

Promote and uphold sustainable tourism practices

Collaborate with fellow guides, Tasmania Parks & Wildlife staff and the wider McDermott's team

Maintain a strong, active presence in the field throughout your shift

About You

Energetic, outgoing and physically fit – you love the outdoors

A natural communicator – clear, open and positive

Passionate about Tasmania's natural environment and sharing it with others

Comfortable living and working on-site at Cradle Mountain during shifts

Reliable, flexible and team-oriented

Professional and customer-focused, with a strong work ethic

Qualifications & Skills

Valid Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) Card

Current Public Passenger Vehicle (PPV) Certificate

Valid MR driver's licence with a good driving record (previous experience preferred)

Current First Aid/CPR certificate (preferred)

Wilderness First Aid qualification (preferred)

Previous experience as a tour guide highly regarded

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Excellent driving ability with a commitment to passenger safety
