Primary Objectives:

Strategic Leadership: Support the MD in aligning commercial strategies with operational capabilities to ensure sales targets are met and customer service standards are exceeded.

Commercial Growth: Expand market share, optimize pricing structures, strengthen partner networks, and drive cross-selling initiatives across freight, warehousing, and customs brokerage.

Operational Excellence: Deliver operational excellence by maximizing cost efficiency, enforcing regulatory compliance, accelerating digital transformation, and optimizing vendor performance.

Key Responsibilities:

Commercial & Business Development

Strategic Planning: Design and execute annual sales plans, manage sales budgets, and allocate resources effectively to optimize ROI.

Pricing & Tenders: Oversee the commercial team in designing competitive freight quotes, managing RFIs/RFPs/RFQs, and securing large-scale tenders.

Client Relations: Act as the primary escalation point for high-value clients, resolving complex service issues and billing disputes to ensure retention.

Market Intelligence: Monitor freight rate volatility, capacity shortages, and competitor activities to adjust commercial strategies proactively.

Operational Excellence & Compliance

Carrier Management: Negotiate rates, space allocation, and service contracts with shipping lines, airlines, and co-loaders.

Workflow Optimization: Oversee end-to-end execution of air, ocean, and road freight, including warehousing and customs clearance. Design and enforce SOPs to eliminate bottlenecks between customer service, documentation, and operations.

Vendor & Compliance: Review, select, and audit third-party vendors while ensuring all shipments comply with international trade laws and hazardous materials regulations.

Digital Transformation: Drive the adoption of freight management software (e.g., SysFreight, Salesforce) to ensure data accuracy and process efficiency.

Leadership & Team Management

Performance Management: Set clear KPIs for department heads, conduct regular performance reviews, and foster a culture of accountability.

Financial Oversight: Support the MD in managing P&L statements, authorizing operational expenditures, and controlling overhead costs.

Cross-Functional Synergy: Lead weekly sync meetings between commercial and operational teams to ensure sales promises align with operational capabilities.

Qualifications:

Experience: Minimum 15 years of experience in the freight forwarding and logistics industry, with at least 5 years at a middle management level.

Sales Leadership: Mandatory experience managing a sales team with a proven track record of personal and team achievement (experience managing nominated shipments is not considered relevant for this role).

Commercial Acumen: Demonstrated ability to drive business development and negotiate complex contracts.

People Management: Ability to resolve conflicts, identify strengths to leverage, and guide weaknesses for improvement.

Stakeholder Management: Excellent communication skills to establish sustainable and profitable relationships at every level.
