About the role
The SMT Process Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and sustaining SMT processes for PCBA assembly in optical transceiver manufacturing. This role focuses on process control, yield improvement, and defect reduction.
Key responsibilities
Develop and optimize SMT processes, including printing parameters (paste, stencil, alignment), placement accuracy, and reflow profile
Establish and maintain process parameters, control limits, and work instructions
Monitor and improve SMT yield, defect rates, and process capability (Cpk)
Analyze and resolve SMT defects including solder bridging, voiding, insufficient solder, and component misalignment
Perform DOE to optimize process performance
Support NPI builds and process transfer
Collaborate with Machine Engineering, Quality, and Production
Ensure compliance with quality standards and reliability requirements
About you
Bachelor's degree or above in Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, Electronics Engineering, or related field
5+ years of SMT process engineering experience
Experience in high-reliability electronics or optical modules preferred
Strong expertise in SMT processes: solder paste printing, pick and place, and reflow soldering
Knowledge of solder materials and stencil design, thermal profiling and reflow optimization, and PCB and component design constraints
Experience with defect analysis (bridging, tombstoning, voiding, misalignment), SPC and process capability (Cpk), and DOE for process optimization
Familiarity with inspection tools: SPI, AOI, X-ray inspection
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
