Allied Health Assistant | Experienced | Ascot Vale & Croydon
Family Allied Health | Therapy Kitchen by Family Dietetics
Part-time or Full-time | Ascot Vale & Croydon
About the Role
Family Allied Health is looking for an experienced and capable Allied Health Assistant (AHA) to join our multidisciplinary team, working across our Therapy Kitchen locations in Ascot Vale and Croydon.
This is a hands-on clinical support role working with children, adolescents and adults and supporting the delivery of high-quality allied health care.
You'll work under the direction and supervision of qualified allied health professionals, supporting therapy across areas including communication, feeding and mealtimes, functional capacity, independent living skills and participation.
We're looking for someone who brings professional maturity, good judgement and meaningful experience working with people.
That experience doesn't necessarily need to have been gained in an Allied Health Assistant position. You may bring substantial experience from disability, education, community services, rehabilitation, aged care, health or another people-focused profession that has given you highly transferable skills.
What matters is that you're confident working with people, understand professional boundaries, can follow a clinical plan while using initiative appropriately, and recognise the importance of consistency and trust.
We also want someone who sees Allied Health Assistance as a valuable career in its own right and is interested in continuing to build expertise within the role.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone with demonstrated experience working with people in a professional care, support, health or community environment.
You may already be an experienced Allied Health Assistant.
Alternatively, your experience may have been developed through:
Disability or NDIS services
Education or learning support
Rehabilitation
Community or family services
Aged care
Mental health
Health or healthcare support
Other roles involving sustained responsibility for supporting people.
We're less concerned about whether your previous job title was Allied Health Assistant and more interested in the skills, judgement and life experience you bring to the role.
You'll be someone who:
Builds rapport while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
Is reliable and understands the importance of continuity for clients and families
Can work independently within clearly delegated responsibilities
Knows when to use initiative and when to seek clinical guidance
Communicates observations clearly and professionally to supervising clinicians
Is organised and follows through on responsibilities
Is comfortable working with people whose needs may be complex
Values multidisciplinary practice
Wants to develop genuine expertise as an Allied Health Assistant.
Essential
Demonstrated relevant experience working within health, disability, education, rehabilitation, community services or another relevant people-focused setting
Relevant Allied Health Assistance qualification and/or equivalent relevant experience appropriate to the role
Current Working with Children Check
Current NDIS Worker Screening Check, or willingness and eligibility to obtain one prior to commencement
Eligibility to work in Australia
Ability to work across both our Ascot Vale and Croydon locations
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated reliability, professional judgement and organisational skills
Ability to work effectively within delegated clinical responsibilities
Commitment to person-centred, respectful and inclusive care
Willingness to participate in supervision, training and ongoing professional development.
Why Family Allied Health?
We see Allied Health Assistants as skilled and valued members of the clinical team.
The role is different from that of an Occupational Therapist, Speech Pathologist or Dietitian — but different doesn't mean less important.
A skilled AHA provides consistency, helps clients practise and consolidate skills between clinician-led interventions, develops trusted therapeutic relationships and makes an important contribution to meaningful outcomes.
We also recognise that expertise develops within Allied Health Assistance itself.
You'll have opportunities to deepen your skills, work alongside experienced clinicians, participate in multidisciplinary learning and develop particular areas of clinical interest as your role evolves.
We offer:
A role that values your existing experience and professional maturity
Regular clinical supervision and support
Opportunities for ongoing professional development
Exposure to multidisciplinary allied health practice
Purpose-built Therapy Kitchen environments
Opportunities to develop areas of particular expertise
Ongoing relationships with clients and families
A workplace where Allied Health Assistance is respected as a meaningful career
The opportunity to contribute to a growing multidisciplinary service.
Employment is under the Health Professionals and Support Services Award – Support Services stream, with classification and remuneration based on qualifications, experience and the requirements of the role.
Your Locations
You'll work across our two Therapy Kitchen locations:
Therapy Kitchen – Ascot Vale
532 Mt Alexander Road
Ascot Vale VIC
Therapy Kitchen – Croydon
435 Dorset Road
Croydon VIC
While this role works across both Ascot Vale and Croydon, we value roster stability. Your days will generally be allocated to a specific clinic, rather than requiring you to travel between sites during the clinical day.
Interested?
You don't need to have followed a traditional pathway into allied health to be the person we're looking for.
You may already have built a career as an Allied Health Assistant. Or you may bring significant experience from another part of health, disability, education or community services and recognise that those skills could translate exceptionally well into this role.
We're looking for someone with experience, reliability and professional maturity who wants to make Allied Health Assistance a valued part of their career.
If that sounds like you, we'd love to hear from you.
Apply through SEEK with your CV and a short cover letter telling us about the experience you would bring to the role and what you're looking for in your next career chapter.
