About the role
Smithton IGA is seeking a Retail Assistant to join our team in Smithton, Tasmania. This is a part-time (30-38 hour) position. As a Retail Assistant, you will be the face of our store, delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining our store to the highest standards. This role is essential to creating a welcoming shopping experience for our community and supporting the smooth day-to-day operations of our retail environment.
What you'll be doing
Providing friendly and efficient customer service at the checkout or in the deli and throughout the store
Processing transactions accurately using point-of-sale systems
Stocking shelves and maintaining product displays in an organised and visually appealing manner
Handling stock rotation and ensuring products are clearly priced and labelled
Maintaining cleanliness and tidiness across all areas of the store
Assisting customers in locating products and answering enquiries about stock availability
Unpacking and receiving deliveries, checking items against orders
Following health and safety procedures and company policies at all times
Supporting team members and contributing to a positive workplace culture
What we're looking for
Previous retail or customer service experience is advantageous but not essential
Strong communication skills and a friendly, approachable demeanour
Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team
Physical capability to lift, carry and stand for extended periods
Reliability and commitment to punctuality
Basic numeracy skills and comfort with electronic point-of-sale systems
A willingness to learn and adapt to new procedures and systems
Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness
What we offer
