The Rockhampton Grammar School is seeking a dedicated Canteen Assistant. You will play an integral role in supporting the Food Services Manager in the daily operation of the canteen.
Work is performed Monday to Friday with hours:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8:30am - 2:15pm (with 1/2 hour lunch break)
Wednesday 8:30am - 12:30pm
The Rockhampton Grammar School was founded in 1881 and is an independent co-educational day and boarding school, educating and caring for students from Prep to Year 12, as well as the Early Learning Years and is Queensland’s largest boarding school. Basic Function
Perform a wide variety of tasks including food preparation for the Early Learning Centre, meal service to boarding students, residential staff and staff, school functions, the canteen as well as kitchen/dining room cleaning as directed by the Food Services Manager or their delegate.
Physical Demands
The demands of this role include the ability to be on your feet for the rostered hours and involve a high level of manual handling and physical ability. A capacity to deal with the requirements and demands of meeting service deadlines is required.
General Responsibilities
Demonstrated knowledge of current food safety practices and standards;
Prepare and cook a range of canteen food items such as breakfasts, sandwiches, rolls and wraps, premade items
Cut, prepare and garnish daily salads and fruit.
Cut, prepare and cook fresh dishes to recipe.
Cut, prepare daily vegetables.
Clean and organise refrigerators and freezers.
Clean and tidy cook’s working area and pot sink benches.
Check off and store all incoming goods.
Service of students and handling of money.
Use of EFTPOS machine and online ordering systems as required.
Security work, requiring the holding of keys and checking of money.
Other duties as directed by Food Services Manager, Food Services supervisor, Canteen Supervisor their delegate.
Required Skills / Abilities / Knowledge
Demonstrated knowledge of current food safety practices and standards;
Demonstrated understanding of infection control, manual handling, hazard identification;
Demonstrated interpersonal, communication and customer service skills;
Demonstrated ability to work unsupervised;
Immaculate grooming and great communication skills;
A positive and can do attitude;
Ability to work as part of team to ensure work tasks are completed;
Ability to adopt quickly to change of routine;
Ability to operate basic kitchen equipment;
Basic knife skills.
Required Qualifications / Experience
Must have experience working in a fast paced hospitality environment, including at events and functions;
Hospitality qualifications will be highly regarded;
Experience in the provision of food services within a School environment or similar preferred, but not essential.
Other requirements:
Working with Children Check (prior to commencement);
Police Check;
Current Full Driver’s Licence for a manual vehicle.
Have or are willing to obtain a Food Handlers Certificate (SITXFSA001) or equivalent
