Senior A-Grade Electrician
Variety, Responsibility & a Good Crew
Melbourne | Full-time | Service, Maintenance, Infrastructure & Projects
If you’re a good sparky, you’ve probably got options.
So rather than tell you we’re a “dynamic company looking for a motivated individual”, here’s what working at Lighton Electrics actually looks like:
A mix of planned maintenance, inspections, fault finding, infrastructure upgrades and design-and-install projects. Good systems. Proper gear. A team that backs you. And plenty of opportunities to use your experience to solve real problems.
Lighton is a family-operated Victorian electrical contractor with more than 45 years behind us. We work across commercial sites, local government, education, community facilities, housing, civil infrastructure and multi-site asset portfolios throughout Melbourne.
We’re growing, and we’re looking for an experienced Senior A-Grade Electrician who knows their trade, takes pride in their work and can be trusted to get things sorted.
What the work actually looks like
We’re not going to pretend every job is a technical mystery waiting to be solved.
Some of our work is repetitive by nature.
We look after large asset portfolios, which means planned maintenance, inspections, testing and compliance work are an important part of what we do. Doing those jobs properly, consistently and efficiently matters to our customers — and to us.
But that’s only one part of the role.
Our service and maintenance work regularly identifies assets that need to be repaired, replaced, redesigned or upgraded. That creates opportunities for our electricians to be involved in the next step — working out the right solution and helping deliver it.
Depending on the job, that might mean:
Diagnosing and resolving a difficult electrical fault
Identifying an ageing or non-compliant installation and recommending a solution
Upgrading switchboards, mains, pillars or electrical infrastructure
Improving lighting, power or control systems
Scoping works and helping determine the best way to deliver them
Working with the team to plan and deliver design-and-install solutions
Completing commercial fit-outs and refurbishments
Delivering EV charging, solar and battery infrastructure
Working on upgrades across civic, community and commercial facilities
For an experienced electrician, there’s an opportunity to do more than simply turn up and install what’s on a drawing.
We value people who can look at a problem, understand what the customer is trying to achieve and contribute to a practical solution.
The role includes
Reactive and preventative electrical maintenance
Routine inspections, testing and scheduled asset maintenance
Fault finding and breakdown response
Lighting, power and control systems
Switchboard, mains, pillar and infrastructure upgrades
Compliance, testing and rectification works
Scoping and delivery of electrical upgrade works
Design-and-install projects
Commercial and community-based projects
Commercial fit-outs and refurbishments
EV charging infrastructure
Solar and battery systems
Digital job management, reporting and documentation
Rotating emergency call-out availability
The kind of sparky we’re looking for
You don’t need to know everything.
You do need to be experienced, dependable and capable of thinking your way through a problem without needing someone standing over your shoulder.
You’ll have:
A current Victorian A-Grade Electrical Licence
Around 3–5+ years' experience as an A-Grade Electrician
A current driver's licence
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
High standards around safety and workmanship
Good communication skills with customers, site contacts and the team
The ability to work independently and take ownership of a job
The discipline to complete routine maintenance and documentation properly
The confidence to contribute ideas and practical solutions
A reliable, practical and easy-to-deal-with attitude
Extra points if you’ve worked across:
Commercial service and maintenance
Local government or facilities maintenance
Education, owners corporations or multi-site portfolios
Scheduled inspection and compliance programs
Switchboards, mains and infrastructure upgrades
Electrical project delivery or design-and-install work
Air conditioning and hold an ARC licence
Solar, batteries or EV charging
Structured cabling
Live operating environments where keeping the customer functioning matters
You don’t need to tick every box.
If you’re a strong electrician who wants to expand beyond the tools into more fault diagnosis, scoping, solution development and project delivery, we’d still like to hear from you.
Why Lighton?
Because a senior electrician should be able to expect more than “competitive salary and a great team environment.”
At Lighton, you’ll get:
A genuine mix of work across planned maintenance, reactive service, infrastructure and projects
The opportunity to be involved in scoping, developing and delivering solutions, not just installing them
Exposure to larger electrical and infrastructure upgrade works
Design-and-install projects where your practical experience and ideas matter
Long-term customer relationships and steady work across established asset portfolios
An established Victorian business with 45+ years of history
A properly equipped service fleet with the tools and equipment you need to do the job well
Good systems and support rather than organised chaos
Exposure to EV charging, solar, battery storage, automation and emerging electrical technologies
The autonomy expected of a senior tradesperson, backed by a team when you need it
A long-term role with room to keep developing technically and professionally
One small application test…
We’re not interested in collecting 150 copy-and-paste applications.
So when you apply, tell us why Lighton caught your attention and why you think you’d be a good fit for the role.
It doesn’t need to be an essay.
A few genuine sentences that show you’ve read the ad and had a look at who we are will do nicely.
If your application looks like it was fired off to every electrical contractor in Melbourne before smoko… we’ll probably notice.
Experienced sparky? Take pride in doing things properly? Want to use your head as well as your tools?
If you like the idea of a role that covers everything from maintaining existing assets through to helping develop and deliver their next upgrade, we’d like to hear from you.
Apply now and tell us a little about yourself.
